Nollywood stars turned out in large numbers on Sunday night as the cast and crew of Ajosepo: The Gathering hosted an elaborate premiere in Lagos ahead of the movie’s nationwide cinema release.
The glamorous event attracted several celebrities from the entertainment industry, with guests appearing in colourful traditional outfits inspired by the evening’s owambe-themed celebration.
Among the notable faces at the premiere were Toyin Abraham, Timini Egbuson, Yemi Solade, Bolaji Ogunmola and celebrity stylist Swanky Jerry. The stars arrived in eye-catching outfits that reflected the rich cultural atmosphere of the occasion.
Toyin Abraham drew attention with a bright pink gele and matching traditional attire complemented by green details, while Timini Egbuson appeared in a stylish agbada paired with beads and a traditional cap. Swanky Jerry also made a fashion statement in a gold outfit that stood out on the red carpet.
The premiere served as both a celebration of fashion and a showcase for one of Nollywood’s anticipated family comedy dramas of the year.
Several celebrities mingled with guests, posed for photographs, and shared moments from the event on social media, generating excitement among movie lovers ahead of the film’s release.
Veteran actor Yemi Solade also caught the attention of fans after appearing in a purple traditional outfit while proudly wearing an Arsenal scarf in celebration of the club’s recent football success. Other entertainers spotted at the event included Odunlade Adekola, Mercy Aigbe, Ronke Oshodi Oke and Mike Afolarin.
Ajosepo: The Gathering is the sequel to the 2024 hit movie Ajosepo, which enjoyed commercial success at the Nigerian box office.
The original film focused on family drama, wedding tensions, and hidden secrets that complicated the relationship between two lovers preparing for marriage. Audiences praised the movie for its blend of comedy, emotional storytelling, and relatable family conflicts.
The sequel is expected to continue the story while introducing fresh twists and more dramatic moments. Movie lovers have already expressed anticipation online, especially after the success of the first installment, which reportedly earned hundreds of millions of naira during its cinema run.
Directed by filmmaker Kayode Kasum and written by Dare Olaitan alongside Stephen Okonkwo, the film is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide on May 28.
With the impressive turnout at the premiere and strong online reactions, many industry observers believe Ajosepo: The Gathering could become another major box office success for Nollywood this year.
