Veteran actress Bukky Wright has offered a deeply personal account of the circumstances that shaped her entry into the Nigerian movie industry, revealing that her path into Nollywood was driven more by personal pain than ambition for fame.
Speaking candidly about her life experience, she explained that acting was never part of her original plan. Instead, her decision was influenced by a difficult phase in her marriage and separation from her children, which left her searching for any possible way to reconnect with them in the future.
She shared her thoughts in her own words:
“I never thought l could become a star in this movie industry, my main mission of coming into this industry was just for my children to locate me in the future.”
Her statement reflects the emotional weight behind her decision, as she described how early marriage into a wealthy family took a dramatic turn that eventually led to her being separated from her children.
The pain of losing access to them pushed her into a state of uncertainty, with little hope of a reunion at the time.
She further explained the depth of her experience, saying:
“So l got married early into a wealthy family and they took my children away from me, when l couldn’t have access to my children and l know l might not see them again, l came into this movie industry with the hope that some days my children would locate me by my name.”
For Bukky Wright, stepping into Nollywood was not simply about building a career but about creating visibility for herself, with the hope that her children would one day recognize her name and find their way back to her. What began as a deeply personal mission eventually transformed into an unexpected journey of fame and recognition.
Over time, her presence in the industry grew stronger, and she gradually became a respected figure in Nollywood. Looking back on her journey, she expressed gratitude for how events eventually unfolded, especially the long-awaited reunion with her children.
“Today l thank God because l have reunited with them and l am now a star, l can’t forget the impact of this movie industry in my life.”
Her story continues to resonate with many, not just for her success on screen, but for the emotional resilience behind her rise.
