Maverick Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has firmly stated that there will be no reconciliation between him and Afrobeats star Wizkid, insisting that their ongoing disagreement is permanent and cannot be resolved.
The tension between both artistes reportedly began after comments linked to Wizkid’s reactions to comparisons between him and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. The situation escalated after claims circulated that Wizkid had made statements interpreted by some as placing himself above the late music icon, a narrative that sparked backlash within Afrobeat circles.
Seun Kuti, who is the son of Fela Kuti, addressed the matter during a recent podcast interview where he was directly asked whether the feud had been settled or if there had been any attempts at reconciliation.
In response, he made it clear that there is no path forward for peace between both parties.
When asked, “Have you and Wizkid settled your beef?” Seun replied bluntly: “It is on for life.”
He further emphasized that his position was not emotional or temporary but a firm decision rooted in what he described as respect for his late father’s legacy.
“I don’t have anything to say about him but it is on for life. You don’t say things about my dad and then it is fine. There is no coming back from that,” he said during the interview.
According to Seun Kuti, the issue goes beyond social media misunderstandings or celebrity disagreements. He stressed that it involves what he considers a serious disrespect towards Fela Kuti’s name and legacy, which he says he cannot overlook.
The Afrobeat singer maintained that once such lines are crossed, reconciliation becomes impossible, regardless of external pressure or public opinion.
His comments have reignited discussions online about the long-standing tension between different generations of Nigerian music stars, especially within the Afrobeat and Afrobeats genres.
While Seun Kuti represents the traditional Afrobeat movement pioneered by Fela Kuti, Wizkid is widely regarded as one of the global faces of modern Afrobeats, a genre that has gained massive international recognition in recent years.
The perceived clash between the old and new schools of Nigerian music has often sparked debates among fans and industry observers about influence, legacy, and artistic respect.
Seun Kuti’s latest remarks suggest that the rift between him and Wizkid is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, as he appears resolute in maintaining his stance.
Meanwhile, Wizkid has not publicly responded to the latest comments at the time of filing this report.
The development continues to generate reactions on social media, with fans divided over the ongoing feud and its implications for Nigeria’s music industry unity.
For now, Seun Kuti has made his position clear: the disagreement is not temporary, and in his words, “it is on for life.”
