The acting chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun State, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, has denied allegations linking him to an alleged assassination attempt on Adebayo Adeleke, widely known as B-Red.
The controversy followed claims made by the Osun State Government accusing hoodlums allegedly associated with Oyewale of attempting to attack the son of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, B-Red narrowly escaped the alleged attack around the Oke-Fia area near the Osun Government House.
Reacting to the accusation on Monday while addressing journalists in Osogbo, Oyewale dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated.
The transport union leader, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, insisted he had no connection to any violent attack against the governor’s son and accused the state government of attempting to intimidate him.
He also threatened to take legal action over the allegations.
“I want to call the attention of President Bola Tinubu, the IGP and Nigerians. They should come to my aid because the governor and Kolapo Alimi have called for my arrest over untrue allegations, and they are even threatening me,” he said.
Oyewale further alleged that his family had previously suffered violence, claiming his younger brother was killed in November 2022 and that the family had still not recovered the body.
“Those after me killed my younger brother in November 2022, and they have not released the corpse to us till today. This is another election cycle in Osun State,” he alleged.
Rejecting the accusation involving B-Red, the NURTW leader maintained that the claims were fabricated to tarnish his image.
“They have been trailing me and want to kill me. They are lying against me, making claims that they cannot substantiate, among which is the allegation that I want to kill the governor’s son,” he stated.
Oyewale also dismissed allegations linking him to the destruction of political billboards in the state.
According to him, he has no relationship with the Accord Party or any crisis involving the ruling party in Osun State.
“They killed my younger brother and now they are alleging that I am behind the destruction of billboards. It does not sound logical. I don’t know anything about these allegations,” he said.
The APC chieftain argued that similar accusations and arrests were allegedly used against members of the transport union during previous election periods in the state.
“This is the style they adopted in 2022. I am a member of the APC. What is my business with Accord? Any time something goes wrong within their party, they will blame me for it,” he added.
He also appealed to his supporters to remain calm amid the controversy, insisting that the situation was part of a campaign to discredit him politically.
“They used the style of indiscriminate arrest of NURTW members in 2022, but it can’t happen again. That is why they have embarked on a campaign of calumny against my personality,” Oyewale said.
The Osun State Government has yet to respond to Oyewale’s latest remarks, while tensions continue to rise over the allegations ahead of another political season in the state.
