A public reaction has followed comments made by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, regarding the abduction of victims in Oyo State. The discussion gained attention after a Facebook post in which he suggested a possible crowdfunding effort if authorities failed to secure the release of the victims within a short timeframe.
The incident in Oyo State involved the reported abduction of residents and schoolchildren, an event that has continued to draw concern across the country. Security agencies have in recent years faced repeated challenges linked to kidnapping cases in different parts of Nigeria, particularly in areas with limited security coverage. In response to such incidents, rescue operations are typically coordinated by law enforcement agencies working with intelligence units and local authorities.
In his Facebook statement, VeryDarkMan expressed frustration over the situation and called for urgent intervention. He stated that if no action was taken within a set period, he might consider launching a GoFundMe initiative aimed at raising funds related to efforts to secure the victims’ release.
Following his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, issued a public response through his Facebook page, expressing disapproval of the suggestion and raising concerns about its implications.
"The same VeryDarkMan who criticized Harrison for publicly supporting kdnp victims now wants to open a GoFundMe to raise money to negotiate with t£rrorsts so he can make money.
I am disappointed in Very Dark Man for trying to open GoFundMe to raise money for t£rrorsts. VeryDarkMan’s 419-style packaging has reached a new level. Instead of mounting more pressure on the government or taking to the streets, he wants to raise funds for terrorists. If this is done, it will definitely become the norm. We all need to look for better ways of tackling this problem. I am disappointed in him."
VeryDarkMan, who is known for his outspoken commentary on social issues and governance matters, regularly shares opinions on national challenges through his social media platforms, where he has built a large following.
The Oyo abduction incident adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of the country where kidnapping cases have continued to be reported. The situation has renewed public attention on the need for more effective and faster responses to abduction cases.
