My Ex-Girlfriend Was Manipulative — Rema Speaks on Past Relationship

Nigerian music star Rema has opened up about a previous relationship, revealing that his decision to walk away was driven by emotional stress and personal peace of mind.

Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the award-winning artist described the relationship as one that had both good and difficult moments. 

According to him, while there were genuine feelings involved, the emotional dynamics eventually became overwhelming.

Rema explained that his expectation in a relationship was to find comfort and stability, especially given the pressures that come with fame and a demanding music career.

 He noted that his professional life already exposes him to constant criticism, tight schedules, and public expectations, which made him hope for a calm and supportive environment at home.

However, he said that was not always the case, as the relationship gradually became a source of emotional tension. The singer hinted that he often felt additional pressure rather than relief when he was away from work and in his personal space.

Without going into too many details, Rema described his former partner as someone who had a strong influence over him emotionally, which he interpreted as manipulative behaviour. 

He added that this dynamic made it difficult for him to maintain balance between his personal life and career ambitions.

Eventually, the singer said he reached a point where continuing the relationship was affecting his mental wellbeing and focus. 

This, according to him, led to the difficult decision to end things, even though there was still emotional attachment.

Rema further revealed that after the breakup, he made a conscious choice to step back from romantic relationships for the time being. 

He explained that he is currently prioritising self-growth, career development, and emotional stability over dating.

The singer’s comments highlight a growing trend among young celebrities who are becoming more open about the mental and emotional toll of relationships under public scrutiny. 

For Rema, the experience served as a learning moment about boundaries, peace of mind, and personal priorities.

While he did not disclose the identity of the ex-partner, his revelation has sparked conversations among fans about love, fame, and the challenges that come with balancing both.

For now, Rema says his focus remains on his music career and building a stronger version of himself, both personally and professionally.
