Veteran filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has announced plans to release the classic Yoruba movie Kadara on YouTube, bringing one of his late father’s iconic productions to a new generation of viewers.

The celebrated actor and director made the announcement through his Instagram page on Tuesday, where he also shared a short teaser from the film ahead of its official online premiere.

According to Afolayan, the movie will begin streaming on Tuesday evening through KAP Stream, his digital entertainment platform. In his post, the filmmaker described Kadara as a timeless story centered on destiny, rivalry, and love.

He noted that the film tells the story of a poor farmer and a wealthy man who become rivals while competing for the affection of a princess.

The award-winning filmmaker encouraged movie lovers and fans of old Yoruba classics to tune in for the release. He also urged viewers to subscribe to the streaming channel and engage with the film by sharing comments and reactions after watching.

Originally released in 1980, Kadara was produced by the late Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, one of the pioneers of indigenous filmmaking in Nigeria.

The movie is regarded as one of the legendary productions that helped shape the Yoruba movie industry and introduced audiences to traditional storytelling through film.

The classic production features several veteran actors who became household names in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Among the stars featured in the movie are Adebayo Salami, Lere Paimo, Charles Olumo, Jimoh Aliu and Sunday Omobolanle.

Their performances contributed to the popularity of Yoruba-language films during the early years of Nollywood.

By returning Kadara to public screens through YouTube, Kunle Afolayan continues his efforts to preserve and promote Nigeria’s cinematic heritage.

Over the years, the filmmaker has repeatedly spoken about the importance of archiving old Nigerian films and making them accessible to younger audiences who may not have had the opportunity to watch them during their original release.

Ade Love was widely respected for his contributions to the Nigerian movie industry before his death in 1996.

Beyond Kadara, he was known for producing several memorable films that gained popularity across the country and cemented his reputation as one of the founding figures of Yoruba cinema.

Kunle Afolayan himself has continued to build on his father’s legacy through acclaimed productions that have earned recognition both locally and internationally.

His decision to revive Kadara online is expected to excite lovers of classic Nigerian movies while also introducing the historic film to a fresh audience in the digital era.
