Veteran Nollywood stars Joke Silva, Nkem Owoh, Patience Ozokwo and Afeez Oyetoro were among the biggest highlights at the AMVCA Icons Night held in Lagos as they received special recognition for their remarkable contributions to the African film industry.

The celebrated actors were honoured with the prestigious AMVCA Icon Award during the glamorous event held at Fame in Ikoyi on Thursday night.

The ceremony formed part of activities leading up to the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, one of Africa’s biggest entertainment award platforms.

The atmosphere at the venue was filled with excitement as actors, filmmakers, producers and entertainers gathered to celebrate legends who have spent decades shaping Nollywood into a globally recognised industry.

The award recipients were praised for their consistency, professionalism and lasting influence on African storytelling.

Joke Silva, widely respected for her commanding performances in film and television, continues to remain one of the most admired figures in the entertainment industry.

Nkem Owoh, famously known for his comic roles and unforgettable performances, also received applause from guests who celebrated his impact on comedy and mainstream cinema.

Patience Ozokwo, known for her strong screen presence and versatile acting, was equally recognised for inspiring generations of actors across Africa. Afeez Oyetoro, popularly called Saka, was honoured for his contribution to comedy and television over the years.

The event also celebrated fashion and style, with actress Susan Peters emerging as the winner of the Best Dressed award. Her appearance drew attention from guests and entertainment lovers who followed the event online.

The AMVCA organisers are expected to continue the celebration with the Cultural Night event before the main award ceremony scheduled to take place at the Eko Hotel and Suites. The annual awards continue to attract stars from across Africa and remain one of the continent’s most anticipated entertainment events.

This year’s edition will feature several award categories recognising achievements in acting, directing, filmmaking, costume design and production. Organisers also introduced new categories aimed at expanding recognition for indigenous storytelling across different parts of Africa.

Ahead of the main event, organisers earlier announced comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts for the 2026 ceremony, while Joke Silva was named head judge for this year’s edition.

Films such as Gingerrr, The Herd, To Kill A Monkey and My Father’s Shadow are among productions leading this year’s nominations. Entertainment fans now eagerly await the grand finale as Nollywood stars prepare for another memorable celebration of African cinema and creativity.
