Nigerian DJ and entertainer DJ Kulet has shared a deeply emotional account of her upbringing, opening up about the painful experiences she says shaped her childhood and left lasting scars on her life.
Her narration paints a picture of a home filled with emotional strain, harsh discipline, and a complete absence of warmth.
She explained that her decision to speak out was triggered by a recent emotional moment that brought back long-suppressed memories of her early years.
"When I listened to the voice note of Destiny Boy's mother placing curses on him, I was deeply traumatized because it brought back painful memories of my own experience. I have been there."
According to her, her childhood was marked by consistent verbal abuse and emotional rejection, which she linked to unresolved issues between her parents. She described growing up in an environment where she felt unwanted and constantly blamed for circumstances beyond her control.
"I grew up with a mother who constantly cursed me. I was never shown love. She hated me simply because she had issues with my father and I looked so much like him."
Beyond the emotional neglect, DJ Kulet recounted repeated physical abuse that she says left both visible and invisible wounds. She described situations where punishment was not occasional but part of her daily reality, affecting her confidence as she grew older.
"She beat me mercilessly, leaving marks all over my body. Each time she beat me, she would say, 'I will beat you until you lose your self-esteem among your friends.' This went on for years, and I truly lost my confidence."
Her account also included instances where the violence escalated beyond ordinary punishment, leaving her with injuries that remain part of her physical history.
"She damaged my skin. Whenever beating me with a cane wasn't enough for her, she would pick up a bottle and hit me on the head. The scars are still there till today."
DJ Kulet’s disclosure has sparked conversations about childhood trauma, emotional neglect, and the long-term impact of abusive parenting on mental health and self-worth. Her story reflects the hidden struggles many individuals carry into adulthood after difficult beginnings.
