Nigerian actress Shaffy Bello has restated that her primary identity in the entertainment industry is acting, not film production, saying she believes she was divinely called to focus on performing rather than producing content.

Speaking during an interview on the Morayo Brown Show, Bello explained that acting was the opportunity that first gave her visibility and eventually made her a recognised face in Nollywood.

According to her, she sees the craft not just as a career but as a responsibility and a personal calling that she must respect and stay committed to.

The 55-year-old actress said she does not currently see herself stepping into movie production, noting that every creative professional does not necessarily need to expand into multiple roles. She emphasised that her focus remains on acting, which she described as her lane and her purpose.

“I am an actor. Every actor does not have to be a producer. I face my lane,” she said during the interview. She added that she believes she is simply doing what she believes God has asked her to do, which is to have an impact through her talent.

Bello further revealed that her journey into fame came with unexpected pressure. She recalled praying in earlier years to become a well-known figure, but said that achieving that level of recognition later made her reflect deeply on the responsibilities attached to it. In her words, attaining visibility came with challenges she did not fully anticipate.

She explained that she sometimes thinks back to the period when she prayed for fame and contrasts it with the reality of being a public figure today.

According to her, she has since realised that being a household name comes with influence and expectations that go beyond personal ambition.

The actress also suggested that if she ever eventually becomes a film producer, it would not be driven by financial motivation but by purpose. However, she stressed that producing films is not something she currently feels called to pursue.

“If God gave you the grace to be a producer, run with it. For right now, I will not say never, I am saying that is not what he is calling me to do,” she said.

Beyond her personal career direction, Bello also addressed younger actresses in the industry, encouraging them to uphold self-respect and make decisions that reflect dignity rather than pressure.

She said she hopes to use her voice and platform to positively influence the next generation of performers.

According to her, success in the entertainment industry should not be measured only by exposure or financial gain but by staying true to one’s natural talent and purpose.

She advised that individuals should recognise their strengths and focus on developing them instead of trying to fit into every aspect of filmmaking.

Bello also touched on the issue of image and self-presentation in Nollywood, noting that some actresses may feel pressured to compromise their values for attention or income. She argued that such choices are not necessary for long-term success or respect in the industry.

She maintained that personal conviction and discipline matter more than trends or external expectations, adding that each person has a unique role to play.

Shaffy Bello first rose to public attention in the late 1990s when she featured as the vocalist on Seyi Sodimu’s popular song “Love Me Jeje.”

Her transition into acting years later helped her establish a strong presence in Nollywood, particularly from the 2010s onward, where she appeared in several notable films and television productions.

Over the years, she has built a reputation for her commanding screen presence and versatility, earning her recognition as one of the industry’s respected figures.
