Popular Nigerian media personality and disc jockey Dorcas Fapson, famously known as DJ DFP, has publicly voiced her pain and frustration after the shocking death of her pet dog, Bailey, while the animal was allegedly under the supervision of Paw and Paws Pet Store.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked emotional reactions online after the entertainer shared details of the moment she received the devastating news.
According to Fapson, she was awakened around 3 a.m. by a distressing phone call from her personal assistant, who informed her that Bailey had died unexpectedly.
“3am yesterday, my PA called me crying, telling me my dog, my Bailey baby that I trusted in the care of @pawandpaws_petstore, is dead.
A happy, healthy 1-year-old dog gone just like that, with no explanation.”
The DJ explained that Bailey was full of life before being left in the care of the pet facility, making the sudden death difficult for her to understand. The emotional post quickly drew sympathy from fans and fellow pet owners, many of whom questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Fapson revealed that an autopsy was conducted afterward, but instead of bringing clarity, the findings raised even more disturbing questions. According to her, blood was discovered in Bailey’s throat, a revelation that intensified her demand for transparency and accountability from the pet store.
“The autopsy said there was blood in her throat, so what really happened to her?
How does a healthy dog die in a place that’s supposed to protect and care for animals??”.
The grieving entertainer also claimed that there were no surveillance cameras or available footage that could explain what happened to Bailey during her stay at the facility. She expressed disbelief that a business responsible for caring for animals could allegedly operate without proper monitoring systems in place.
“No cameras. No footage. No accountability.”
Adding to her heartbreak, Fapson shared that Bailey had celebrated a birthday only four days before the tragic incident. She described the loss as deeply personal, saying she still struggles to accept the reality that her beloved pet is gone.
“Her birthday was just 4 days ago.I still can’t process that she’s gone.”
The controversy grew further after Fapson accused the pet store owner of allegedly offering her N500,000 as compensation following the incident. She strongly rejected the gesture, insisting that no amount of money could replace the emotional bond she shared with Bailey.
“To add insult to injury, the owner dared to offer me 500k naira as a ‘gesture’ when I’ve spent more than that trusting you with her care.
No amount of money will ever replace her.
You took away a piece of me, and I will never forgive you.”
As conversations continue online, many social media users have joined the call for accountability, with some demanding stricter regulations for pet care businesses and boarding facilities across the country. Others have sympathized with the media personality, describing the loss of a pet as comparable to losing a family member.
Fapson ended her emotional message with a passionate appeal to the public, urging people to question the pet store and demand the truth about what really happened to Bailey.
