Veteran Nollywood actress Ibironke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has credited discipline, consistency, and professionalism for her enduring success in the Nigerian film industry.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actress reflected on her decades-long journey in Nollywood, stressing that talent alone is not enough to build a lasting career. According to her, dedication and seriousness remain essential qualities for anyone hoping to thrive in the competitive entertainment industry.
Addressing the common belief that many younger actors are more interested in social media fame than their craft, Ronke Oshodi-Oke said such assumptions do not apply to everyone. She noted that many emerging actors are hardworking and committed to their careers.
According to her, Nollywood is an industry that rewards dedication and punishes unseriousness. She explained that actors who approach the profession casually often struggle to remain relevant, while those who remain focused and disciplined continue to grow.
“It’s not all of them. Most of them are serious. If you are doing something and you are not serious about it, you will face the consequences. We are not joking in Nollywood. If you come and you want to pose, you want to come and play, you will face the consequence. Take Timini Egbuson, for example; he is a very lovely boy and takes his job very seriously,” she said.
The actress also spoke about her involvement in the movie Ajosepo: The Gathering, revealing that she approaches every acting role with the same level of commitment regardless of the size or significance of the character.
For Ronke Oshodi-Oke, every script presents a fresh opportunity to showcase her talent and connect with audiences. She explained that whenever she is on set, she immerses herself completely in the character and focuses on delivering the best possible performance.
“I see each and every role as an opportunity. So when I am acting, it is not me; it is God. When I am acting, I am always in that script. I always want to give the best. It’s mixed feelings,” she said.
Reflecting further on her successful career, the actress dismissed suggestions that industry relationships or personal connections played a major role in her achievements.
Instead, she attributed her longevity in the industry to divine favour, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She noted that she has never relied on constantly seeking favours from producers or industry executives to secure acting opportunities.
According to her, she has always focused on making the most of every opportunity that comes her way, regardless of how small the role may be.
“I don’t do anything; it has been God all the while. How many producers will I call? How many people will I say, ‘please come and give me jobs’? It has just been God, and also hard work. Even if I am given one or two scenes, I take it seriously,” she added.
Ronke Oshodi-Oke remains one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses, with a career spanning several decades. Her comments serve as a reminder that consistency, discipline, and professionalism continue to be vital ingredients for long-term success in the entertainment industry.
