Actress and film producer Bolaji Ogunmola has addressed growing concerns from fans questioning the need for a sequel to the hit Nollywood film Ajosepo, urging audiences to reserve judgment until they watch the new installment.
The actress, who plays a key role in the production of the project, responded via her X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the movie’s exclusive premiere held at IMAX Lekki on Sunday. Her remarks came after social media users debated whether the original story required a continuation.
In her post, she encouraged critics to withhold opinions until the film is officially released in cinemas, stating that the creative team intentionally built the sequel to expand the storyline in a way viewers would understand once they see it.
The original Ajosepo, released in 2024, was a romantic comedy-drama that followed the story of a young couple, Dapo and Tani, as they prepared for marriage while dealing with family pressures, secrets, and emotional conflicts. The film gained attention for its blend of humour, cultural themes, and relatable relationship struggles.
Directed by Kayode Kasum, the first installment featured a star-studded cast including Timini Egbuson, Mercy Aigbe, Mike Afolarin, and several other Nollywood stars who contributed to its commercial and critical success.
The sequel, titled Ajosepo 2, is expected to continue the storyline from where the first film ended, although the producers have remained tight-lipped about specific plot details. This has further fueled curiosity among fans, especially after the buzz generated at its premiere event.
According to early reactions from attendees, the film introduces new conflicts and deeper emotional layers while expanding on themes of marriage, family expectations, and trust.
However, the production team has not yet revealed the full cast lineup or confirmed how the story will unfold.
Bolaji Ogunmola’s response highlights the growing trend in Nollywood where filmmakers are increasingly expanding successful titles into franchises, aiming to build longer story arcs and sustained audience engagement.
Industry observers believe the sequel strategy reflects both creative ambition and commercial demand, as audiences continue to show strong interest in locally produced cinema with relatable narratives.
With the official cinema release scheduled for May 28, anticipation continues to build around whether Ajosepo 2 will live up to expectations or face criticism for extending a story some fans believed was already complete.
