Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has opened up about her evolving music-making process, revealing that one of the songs from her debut project was inspired by a real-life moment she experienced while riding in a public bus.

The Mavin Records star made the revelation during a recent conversation on the Creatorium Podcast, where she reflected on how her creative approach has changed since the beginning of her career.

According to the singer, her songwriting style has become more experimental over time, as she now focuses less on creating music solely from emotional experiences and more on exploring sounds, melodies, and artistic ideas.

Ayra Starr explained that in the early stages of her career, especially while working on her debut album, many of her songs were heavily rooted in emotions and personal feelings. However, she noted that her recent projects are driven more by curiosity, spontaneity, and a desire to experiment creatively.

“It depends on what I am going for,” she said during the interview.

“Lately for me, creating just starts with trying. Not emotion; just trying, then we see where it takes us. It may start with chords or sounds, or a specific sound I want to sample.”

The singer further explained that some songs now begin from random creative ideas instead of deeply emotional moments, adding that she enjoys allowing music to develop naturally during studio sessions.

“Sometimes, I just want to do something fun or make something that sounds different,” she added.

Reflecting on her debut body of work, Ayra Starr admitted that the project carried a more emotional tone compared to the music she currently makes.

“For my first album, it was more about trying something sad, something that matches emotion. But now, it’s more about experimenting sonically and indulging in different ideas to see where they lead,” she said.

The Rush crooner also shared the unexpected inspiration behind her song Beggie Beggie, revealing that she wrote the track while returning home in a public bus.

According to her, the title and concept of the song were inspired by a conversation she overheard during the journey.

“My first album has a song called Beggie Beggie. I literally wrote it in a bus,” she recalled.

“I was going back home and just wrote it there. Somebody was begging inside the bus, and a woman said, ‘See this one, beggie beggie.’”

Her revelation has since sparked reactions online, with many fans praising her ability to draw inspiration from everyday experiences and transform them into successful music.

Ayra Starr also used the interview to speak about the realities of life in the entertainment industry, stressing that success in music requires far more than talent and glamorous public appearances.

According to her, the hard work that goes on behind the scenes is often overlooked by fans who only see the polished final performances.

“You have to have a certain type of love and passion for what you do to be able to do this,” she said.

“The glamour is the glamour, but behind the scenes, it’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of preparation. It’s a lot of not-so-amazing days.”

She added that even after weeks of rehearsals and preparation, unexpected technical issues can still ruin a performance on stage.

“Sometimes, after rehearsing for two weeks, one sound can ruin the whole performance on stage,” the singer explained.

Since breaking into the mainstream music scene, Ayra Starr has continued to establish herself as one of the leading voices in Afrobeats, earning international recognition for her sound, style, and songwriting abilities.

Her comments on creativity and the realities of fame have further given fans a deeper look into the dedication and discipline required to succeed in the highly competitive music industry.
