Human rights activist and political figure Omoyele Sowore has renewed his public criticism of telecommunications giant MTN Group, expressing deep frustration over what he describes as persistent and unresolved issues surrounding data usage and billing practices affecting subscribers across the country.

Speaking on the matter, Sowore said a previously issued seven-day ultimatum directed at the telecom operator has now expired without any visible improvement in service quality or customer experience.

He argued that instead of addressing concerns raised by users, the situation has continued to worsen, further fueling dissatisfaction among subscribers.

He made his position clear in a strongly worded statement:
“MTN 7 days ultimatum expires today and we’re going to revisit thier case cos nothing has changed, infact, it has become w0rse, they’re still st33ling Data, they’re the biggest thi3f of Data in this country, MTN st3als 55k for monthly data from me cos it finishes in 3days”.

In his remarks, Sowore accused the company of consistently shortchanging customers through what he described as unusually rapid data depletion. He claimed that many users have experienced similar frustrations, where subscribed data packages appear to last far less than expected under normal usage conditions.

He further shared a personal experience, stating that a monthly data subscription worth ₦55,000 was exhausted within just three days, an occurrence he believes reflects a broader pattern affecting consumers nationwide.

According to him, such incidents point to deeper concerns about transparency, fairness, and accountability in the telecom sector. He stressed that customers should be able to enjoy services that reflect the value of their payments, without unexpected depletion or unclear usage patterns.

The activist’s renewed comments have once again drawn attention to long-standing debates around data pricing and service quality in Nigeria’s telecommunications industry. His warning suggests that continued inaction may lead to further public pressure on service providers and regulators to intervene.

Despite the strong allegations and public reaction his statement has generated, MTN Group has not yet released any official response addressing the claims at the time of this report.
