Nollywood actor Zack Orji has sparked fresh public debate after criticizing Nigerians who oppose President Bola Tinubu, saying many citizens rely heavily on unverified information circulating on social media instead of conducting proper research before forming opinions.

Speaking on the KaaTruths podcast, the veteran actor defended his support for the president and emphasized that leadership should be assessed with patience, especially when reforms are being implemented.

Orji recounted a recent experience in the United Kingdom where he was confronted by some Nigerians over his political stance.

According to him, the encounter quickly turned into a heated exchange after he was questioned about why he continues to support President Tinubu despite widespread criticism.

He explained that he responded by questioning the logic behind expecting him to withdraw support for a sitting president of his country.

“Why would I not support him? He is the president of my country,” he said, adding that citizens should not be pressured into opposing their national leader if they believe the leader is working in the right direction.

The actor further argued that governance reforms are often slow and uncomfortable because they involve dismantling existing systems and replacing them with new structures.

He maintained that Nigerians should allow leaders enough time to deliver on their policies instead of rushing to judgment.

Orji also used the platform to express concern about how information spreads online, insisting that a large portion of what people consume on social media is inaccurate.

He claimed that many Nigerians form strong opinions based on trending posts without verifying facts from credible sources.

“Nigerians do not research. They run with what they see on social media, and I will tell you that three quarters of what you see online is not true,” he said.

He added that misinformation often shapes public perception unfairly and leads to widespread misunderstanding of political issues.

He went on to describe what he sees as a culture of negativity, where repeated criticism can shape how individuals or leaders are perceived regardless of their actions.

According to him, once a narrative gains traction, it becomes difficult to correct even when facts are presented.

Addressing concerns about the current economic situation, Orji acknowledged that many Nigerians are facing hardship but insisted that economic difficulties are not unique to the present administration.

He argued that “hunger is a universal issue” and should not be framed as something that began under Tinubu’s leadership.

The actor also reiterated his belief that some of the administration’s policies are beginning to show results, particularly in areas tied to economic restructuring, though he did not provide specific data to support the claim.

In addition, Orji has previously expressed strong support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, describing him as the most qualified among potential candidates he expects to contest.

His latest comments have once again placed him at the center of political discussion online, with Nigerians continuing to express divided opinions over his stance and the broader conversation around governance, economic hardship, and public perception in the country.
