Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has taken a firm stand in a heated conversation surrounding political loyalty and ethnic judgment, directing his comments at some Igbo men who, according to him, frequently criticize fellow Igbo individuals for their support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the general election.
The actor expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as an uneven approach to political criticism, where individuals appear more comfortable confronting people within their own ethnic group while avoiding similar confrontation with supporters from other regions of the country.
In his view, this pattern creates a sense of imbalance in how political opinions are addressed, especially when the same level of scrutiny is not applied universally.
Yul questioned the logic behind what he sees as selective criticism and challenged those involved to demonstrate consistency in their actions, regardless of ethnic background or political alignment. He insisted that fairness should guide how political disagreements are handled, rather than emotional or tribal considerations.
He did not mince words in his message, stating:
“Any Igbo man who is dragging his fellow Igbo man for supporting President TINUBU, that person is a monkey and a coward.
Show me a video of you dragging Yorubas who are supporting TINUBU.
Show me a video of you dragging Northerners who are supporting TINUBU.
Show me a video of you dragging all the past leaders who couldn’t fix Nigeria.
Show me a video of you dragging Northern celebrities who support TINUBU.
None.
You don’t have the liver to do it.
But when it’s your Igbo brother, you’ll rush and set the ring light to drag him.
You’re a monkey and a big coward.
Shame on you”.
The statement reflects his frustration with what he perceives as one-sided criticism within political discussions, particularly among people who share the same ethnic identity. His choice of words has drawn attention to the intensity of emotions often tied to political conversations in Nigeria, especially as the country approaches another election cycle.
Yul’s remarks add to ongoing debates about unity, political tolerance, and how citizens engage with differing opinions in a diverse society where politics often intersects with ethnicity and personal identity. While some may interpret his comments as a call for fairness, others may see them as part of the broader tension that frequently surrounds political discourse in the country.
The conversation continues to evolve as Nigerians express varying views on how political support should be debated and whether internal criticism should differ from external criticism.
