Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage is set to headline a major cultural event in Lagos as she prepares to host the grand finale concert of her music foundation programme, bringing together over 100 emerging creatives who have just completed an intensive training initiative.
The concert, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, will take place at the National Theatre—now renamed the Wole Soyinka Center for Culture and the Creative Arts—and is expected to showcase the talents of participants who have undergone days of rigorous artistic development.
The event will be co-hosted by renowned Nigerian entertainer Darey Art Alade and media personality Kie Kie, both of whom are expected to guide audiences through a lineup of performances, presentations, and special recognitions.
Participants of the programme will take centre stage, delivering ensemble performances as well as original compositions they developed during the training period. The concert will also feature scholarship awards for outstanding individuals, further reinforcing the programme’s focus on talent development and long-term growth.
The initiative, themed “Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Emerging Musicianship Intensive,” ran from April 22 to April 26. It offered participants a hands-on learning experience covering various aspects of the music industry, including performance techniques, songwriting, music production, and the business side of entertainment.
According to Tiwa Savage, the programme represents a strategic effort to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, particularly for young creatives who may lack access to formal training and industry exposure.
“I want the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation to be a bridge that connects African talent to global opportunities, a recognized institution that consistently develops talent from Nigeria and across Africa,” she said ahead of the event.
Her vision, however, goes beyond nurturing performers alone. Savage emphasised that the foundation aims to produce well-rounded industry professionals who can influence different segments of the creative ecosystem.
“I don’t just want to launch artists; I want to build leaders, producers, executives, and owners who will shape the future of the music industry,” she added.
The singer explained that the foundation was created to empower underrepresented creatives by providing them with access to world-class training, mentorship, and career development tools that are often out of reach for many aspiring talents.
Through this initiative, participants are not only exposed to practical skills but are also introduced to the broader possibilities within the music and entertainment industry. Savage noted that beneficiaries of the programme are expected to evolve into key players such as film composers, record label executives, and mentors who will eventually give back to the system.
“Music changed my life, but talent alone isn’t enough, especially when access is limited. I want to open people’s eyes to the full scope of what’s possible in music,” she said.
The finale concert is expected to serve as both a celebration of creativity and a platform for discovery, offering participants the chance to perform before an audience that includes industry stakeholders, media professionals, and potential collaborators.
With the growing global influence of Afrobeats, initiatives like this highlight the importance of structured talent development in sustaining the industry’s momentum. Tiwa Savage’s effort reflects a broader shift among top African artistes who are investing in the next generation, ensuring that the future of the continent’s music scene remains vibrant, competitive, and globally relevant.
