Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has spoken out sharply following the court‑ordered remand of Anambra-based businessman Linus Williams Ifejirika, popularly known as B‑Lord, in Kuje Correctional Centre. In a statement, Sowore made it clear that incarcerating individuals under the color of law should not be celebrated.
“I have read about the court-ordered detention of an individual known as B-Lord, and I must say this clearly that no one should celebrate the incarceration of any person under the color of law,” he said. Sowore added that he had reached out to his lawyer, Marshal D. F. Abubakar, urging him to disengage from the process.
The activist emphasized the broader implications of the detention, warning that it reflects a system that can be used to oppress citizens rather than serve justice.
“We must all agree that sending B-Lord to prison is not a victory for legal brilliance or advocacy. Rather, it risks emboldening a system of oppression that weaponizes the law against citizens,” Sowore stated. He also stressed that justice should never be reduced “to punishment for its own sake” and vowed to work toward ensuring B-Lord’s release “without further delay.”
B‑Lord was remanded following allegations brought by social media personality VeryDarkMan, who accused him of impersonation and unauthorized use of materials in a promotional campaign. The businessman’s detention has sparked discussions nationwide, with many questioning whether legal processes are being leveraged to intimidate or silence individuals.
Sowore’s reaction resonates with his long-standing advocacy for civil liberties and due process in Nigeria. Having faced arrest and detention himself in the past, he has consistently campaigned against the misuse of the legal system as a tool of oppression.
His call for immediate release reflects both concern for B-Lord’s individual rights and a warning about broader legal practices in the country.
As the case unfolds, it will be closely watched by legal analysts, activists, and the public, not only for its outcome but for the wider message it sends about justice, fairness, and the rule of law in Nigeria.
