Nile Entertainment has entered into a strategic partnership with Paramount Pictures to handle the West African distribution of the highly anticipated fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone, marking a significant moment for the region’s film industry and global representation of African storytelling.
The announcement, made on Friday via Nile Entertainment’s official Instagram page, follows the film’s early preview at CinemaCon 2026, where exhibitors were given a first look at footage ahead of its global theatrical rollout.
The partnership will see the film released across key West African markets, including Nigeria and Ghana, positioning the region as a central hub for the film’s cultural and commercial impact.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the movie is based on the bestselling novel by Tomi Adeyemi. The original book, published in 2018, is the first installment in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy and quickly gained international acclaim for its rich blend of fantasy and African mythology.
The story follows a young heroine, Zélie, on a mission to restore magic to her people in the mythical kingdom of Orïsha, drawing heavily from Yoruba culture and spiritual traditions.
The film boasts an impressive international cast, including Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Nigerian screen legend Richard Mofe-Damijo. It also features appearances from music star Ayra Starr and rising talents like Tosin Cole.
Nile Entertainment described the project as more than just a film release, calling it a “cultural moment” that reconnects a globally celebrated African-inspired story with its roots.
In a follow-up post, the distributor emphasized the symbolic importance of bringing the story “home,” highlighting the growing influence of African narratives in mainstream cinema.
This development comes shortly after Nile Entertainment secured exclusive theatrical distribution rights for both Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures across West Africa earlier in 2026.
The latest deal further strengthens its position as a key player in bridging Hollywood productions with African audiences.
The adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone has generated widespread excitement, not only because of its star-studded cast but also due to its deep cultural resonance.
By centering Yoruba mythology and African heritage, the film represents a shift toward more inclusive storytelling in global cinema, where African histories and traditions are given prominence on a grand scale.
Its debut preview at CinemaCon marked the first time audiences saw footage from the project, building anticipation ahead of its full theatrical release.
For many, the film’s arrival signals a new era for African-inspired fantasy, one that could pave the way for more stories rooted in the continent’s diverse cultures to reach international audiences.
As the release date approaches, expectations remain high that Children of Blood and Bone will not only perform well at the box office but also leave a lasting cultural impact, especially within West Africa, where its themes and origins resonate most deeply.
