Actress and politician Funke Adesiyan has officially stepped back from her bid to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, ending months of political anticipation surrounding her ambition.

The former Nollywood star, who sought to represent the Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State, confirmed her withdrawal in a public statement shared on social media.

In the message, she explained that the decision followed careful reflection and extensive consultations with close associates and political stakeholders.

According to her, the move was not taken lightly but was guided by a broader evaluation of the political environment and her long-term goals. She described the choice as deliberate, stressing that it was driven by a desire to focus on impact rather than immediate political office.

Funke Adesiyan noted that while she appreciated the support she received from party members and constituents, she believed stepping aside at this point would allow her to reposition herself for more meaningful contributions in the future.

She emphasized that her commitment to public service remains unchanged, even if her approach is shifting.

Over the years, Adesiyan has built a reputation that spans both the entertainment and political sectors. She gained recognition in the Nigerian film industry before transitioning into active politics, where she has participated in several election cycles and political engagements.

Her political journey began with involvement in campaign coordination roles, where she supported national political movements in the South-West.

She later contested for a legislative seat at the state level, where she secured her party’s nomination but was unsuccessful in the general election.

She subsequently joined the All Progressives Congress, continuing her political career and winning party primaries in later elections. However, her political path has also included challenges, including disputes over candidacy outcomes in previous election cycles.

Between 2019 and 2023, she also served in a support role within the presidency, contributing to social and domestic programme coordination, where she was involved in organising community-focused initiatives.

Her latest withdrawal marks another turning point in a career that has moved between entertainment, activism, and politics.

While she has stepped back from the current race, her statement suggests she remains active in public life and open to future political or developmental engagements.

Supporters have described her decision as strategic, while others see it as a pause in what has been a steadily evolving political journey.
