The Lagos State Government has announced temporary road closures and diversions in parts of the state ahead of the commissioning of several key infrastructure projects scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the traffic adjustments are necessary to ensure safety and proper coordination during the planned events.
He urged motorists across the state to plan their journeys in advance, avoid affected routes, and make use of alternative roads where possible to prevent unnecessary delays and congestion.
According to the statement, one of the major projects to be commissioned is the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge, scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The event is expected to affect traffic flow along Opebi-Allen Road, Ikeja, and the Ojota axis.
Motorists moving through these routes during the specified hours have been advised to take alternative paths in order to avoid gridlock and ensure smooth movement to their destinations.
On Thursday, April 9, additional commissioning events will also take place across different parts of the state. The first is scheduled to hold between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Tolu Schools Complex, which will impact traffic around Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle.
Residents and commuters in those areas have been encouraged to adjust their travel plans accordingly and allocate extra time for their journeys to reduce stress and delays.
A second event is expected later that day between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Eko Hotel and Suites, an area already known for heavy traffic, especially during peak hours. The event is likely to affect movement within Victoria Island and its surrounding routes, prompting further advice for motorists to steer clear of the area where possible.
The Lagos State Government assured residents that adequate traffic management measures have been put in place to minimize disruption. Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and other relevant agencies will be deployed to key locations to direct traffic and assist commuters throughout the duration of the events.
Osiyemi emphasized the importance of public cooperation, calling on residents to follow instructions from traffic officers and adhere strictly to all diversion guidelines.
He noted that such cooperation is essential to maintaining order on the roads and ensuring that the commissioning ceremonies proceed smoothly without major disruptions to daily activities.
Residents have been encouraged to remain patient and supportive as the state continues its efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance transportation across Lagos.
