Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed a mix of gratitude and concern as his son, Clinton Kanayo, successfully completes his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Taking to social media, the actor shared photos of his son dressed in his NYSC uniform and proudly holding his certificate. While celebrating the milestone, Kanayo also reflected on the current state of the nation, noting that his joy is overshadowed by the suffering of others.

In his post, he offered thanks to God for seeing his son through the programme but admitted that the ongoing violence across the country made it difficult to fully celebrate.

“Please join me in thanking Chukwu Okike Abiama, The Almighty God, for my son, Clinton Onyekwere, Onyeze Mbaise, on completion of his NYSC. More to say, but the BLOODSHED in the LAND would not let me. I rejoice. Others mourn. Pathetically SAD.

@clintonkanayo”.

His message struck a reflective tone, highlighting the contrast between personal celebration and the broader challenges facing many Nigerians.

A Proud Father With Strong Values

Kanayo has long been known for his outspoken views on parenting and discipline, often sharing moments involving his children and the lessons he imparts to them.

Last year, the actor drew attention online after questioning Clinton over a video of him dancing with a female colleague at his NYSC orientation camp in Ede, Osun State. In his reaction, Kanayo humorously questioned where his son learned such dance moves, insisting that dancing was not part of their family traits.

In 2023, when Clinton secured admission into a university in the United States, the actor publicly offered prayers for him. He advised his son to remain focused on his education and uphold the values he was raised with, while also cautioning him against distractions.

Family Traditions And Personal Moments

Kanayo has also shared glimpses of his family traditions over the years. In one notable instance, he visited his late parents’ graveside alongside his sons, explaining that it is a personal ritual he observes whenever he returns home. He added that he hopes his children would continue the tradition in the future.

The actor has also shown his emotional side on several occasions. Two years ago, he shared a touching video of a surprise visit to his son, Montel, abroad after not seeing him for about a year. The reunion captured a heartfelt moment between father and son.

Guidance On Career And Life Choices

Beyond family bonding, Kanayo has actively guided his children in their career paths. In 2023, he introduced Clinton to the movie industry, sharing a video of them working together on a film set. He noted at the time that his son was gradually learning the ropes of filmmaking.

The actor also made headlines when he advised young people to present their first salary to their fathers for blessings rather than taking it to religious leaders. He shared this perspective while celebrating Clinton’s first earnings as a production manager’s assistant in Nollywood.

In another instance, Kanayo issued a firm directive to his daughter, Valerie, during her 25th birthday celebration, stating that before 2027, she should either be married, complete her PhD, or move out of his house.

Balancing Joy And Concern

While celebrating his son’s NYSC achievement, Kanayo’s message reflects a deeper awareness of the realities facing many families across Nigeria. His words capture the bittersweet nature of the moment—joy for personal milestones, yet concern for the state of the nation.

For the actor, Clinton’s accomplishment is a reason to give thanks, even as he acknowledges that not everyone has the privilege of celebrating in the same way.
