Two years after the tragic death of Nollywood actor JohnPaul Odonwodo, his widow, Jennifer Odonwodo, has shared an emotional reflection on the day her life changed forever.
In a deeply personal post on Instagram, Jennifer recounted the moment she received the devastating news of her husband’s passing, describing it as the most painful experience of her life.
According to her, the heartbreaking call came in the afternoon while she was getting ready for a photoshoot, completely unaware of the tragedy that had just occurred.
“This day two years ago, at about some minutes past 3pm, while getting dressed to go for a photoshoot, I received the most devastating call of my life… Awele, the boat JP was on just capsized,” she wrote.
She revealed that her immediate reaction was disbelief, as she initially struggled to process the shocking information.
“My hands immediately started shaking, but a part of me held onto the fact that it was a prank,” she added.
Jennifer went on to describe the traumatic experience of arriving at the scene, where the reality of the situation became impossible to ignore. She recalled seeing a large crowd before a distressing sight confirmed her worst fears.
“I was driven to the scene and saw the very massive crowd… a black Hilux drove past me with my husband lying lifeless in its trunk with the same red shorts he wore when he left the house. I screamed JESUSSSSS, which I’m sure Heaven heard the echo,” she recounted.
The emotional shock took a severe toll on her health. She disclosed that her blood pressure rose to a dangerously high level, forcing doctors to admit her into the hospital immediately.
“For some reason, the doctor checked my BP, and it was over 210 thereabout… I was immediately admitted,” she said.
Despite the painful reality, Jennifer admitted that she held on to hope for a miracle, finding it difficult to accept that her husband was truly gone. She reflected on their final moments together, which made the loss even harder to comprehend.
“I was in denial, because how can someone who told me to warm and keep the jollof rice he had the night before to have the same night of April 10th not be here to eat it?” she wrote.
She explained that it wasn’t until the funeral proceedings began that she was finally confronted with the permanence of the loss.
“I still had hope of Jp’s resurrection not until the morning pallbearers brought in his casket on their shoulders and very loud canon sounds ushered him in,” she added.
Even in the midst of grief, Jennifer expressed gratitude for the strength she has found over the past two years, crediting God for sustaining her and her family through the difficult journey.
“Johnpaul Obumneme Odonwodo, God is taking care of your children and I, and your mother as well. It hasn’t been easy, but God has been faithful,” she wrote.
She ended her tribute with a heartfelt message to her late husband, fondly remembering him and expressing how much he is missed.
“Continue to rest peacefully in God’s bosom, Swag King. We miss you so much.”
The emotional remembrance has since resonated with fans and colleagues, many of whom continue to honour the late actor’s legacy while offering support to his family.
