Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has opened up about her journey into acting, revealing that her career in film was never part of her original plan.

The veteran star, who recently returned more actively to the screen, shared insights into her early beginnings, personal life, and passion for the craft during an appearance on the Tea With Tay Podcast.

According to Damasus, many people have misunderstood her range as an actress over the years, often assuming she is limited to a particular style of performance.

She, however, made it clear that there is more depth to her talent than what audiences may have seen in the past.

This, she explained, is one of the reasons behind her renewed presence in the industry, as she hopes to showcase different sides of her acting abilities.

Interestingly, acting was not her first love. Damasus revealed that music was her original passion when she moved to Lagos at the age of 15. She began her creative journey as a singer, performing at popular spots like Jazzville in Yaba while also working at Klinx Studios.

During that period, she focused heavily on developing her vocal skills, doing backup singing and recording jingles for various projects. With the guidance of mentors in the music space, she believed her future would be firmly rooted in singing.

Her transition into acting, however, happened unexpectedly. She recounted how a friend persuaded her to attend an audition in Ikeja on a day she had no plans of stepping out.

At the time, she was living with her sister in Surulere and had not even prepared herself for such an opportunity. Despite her reluctance, that spontaneous decision turned out to be life-changing, marking the beginning of what would become a successful acting career.

Over the years, Damasus rose to prominence in Nollywood, particularly in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She became a familiar face in several notable films, earning recognition for her emotional delivery and strong screen presence.

Her performances in movies like Breaking Point, Widow, and Behind Closed Doors helped cement her place as one of the industry’s respected talents.

Beyond her professional achievements, the actress also spoke about her personal life, especially her close relationship with her children.

She described them as her greatest support system, emphasizing the strength and unconditional love they provide.

According to her, she believes her children were given to her by God with the understanding that they would stand by her through life’s challenges.

Now back in the spotlight, Damasus appears determined to redefine how audiences perceive her. With a career that began by chance but flourished through dedication, she remains a powerful figure in Nollywood, continuing to evolve while inspiring a new generation of actors.
