Speaking about it in a recent reflection, Davido explained that the name was not originally intended to become his public identity. It started in his childhood years, during moments that involved his father trying to get his attention in a unique way.

He described himself as a very stubborn child growing up, someone who often required extra effort to be called to order or respond when spoken to. This personality trait played a key role in how his name eventually developed.

“My dad gave me the name Davido. I was very stubborn as a kid, so whenever he wanted to call me, he’d shout ‘David-o! Davido-o!’ That’s how the name stuck,”.
