Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Burna Boy, has responded to recent criticism directed at the Afrobeats star, insisting that confidence should not be mistaken for arrogance.
The reaction follows backlash on social media, where the Grammy-winning artiste was accused of displaying an arrogant attitude, particularly after a reported disagreement involving DJ Tunez, a close associate of Wizkid. The situation reportedly fueled tensions between the two music stars and triggered heated exchanges online.
Speaking during an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, Ogulu dismissed the criticism, stating that she is not concerned about how people choose to label her son.
“I don’t mind honestly, I don’t mind at all. I mean any adjective they want to attach to you is ok. The thing is who are you? If knowing your worth and carrying yourself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that,” she said.
She further explained her stance on self-confidence and identity, emphasising that recognising one’s value should not be viewed negatively.
“First is the color of your skin, the color of your passport, for me, my gender. So, I don’t understand the concept of that life. I understand that if I know something, I know it and I expect you to realise that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then, put me to the test,” she added.
Her comments come amid ongoing conversations about Burna Boy’s public persona, with some critics accusing him of being confrontational, while supporters argue that his confidence reflects his global success and influence.
Ogulu’s remarks reinforce her long-standing support for her son, making it clear that she sees nothing wrong with him embracing his identity and achievements, regardless of public opinion.
