The music industry and fans alike were left grieving after the unexpected passing of 22‑year‑old Afro‑Fuji sensation Afeez Adesina  popularly known as Destiny Boy on January 17, 2026. While his sudden death shook social media and the entertainment community, lingering uncertainties and rampant speculation fueled speculation about what truly led to the young star’s demise.

In the days that followed his death, dramatic images and videos circulated online, showing his body being moved to a mortuary. One widely shared clip appeared to show him lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool visibly placed in his nostrils and ears. These scenes gave rise to intense public conjecture and calls for clarity about how he died.

Destiny Boy’s mother, Saidat Adeshina, previously spoke candidly about her son’s difficult health struggles. She revealed that the singer had endured a medical issue described locally as “Oku Oru,” which bore resemblance to epilepsy, for nearly two years. She said the condition first emerged shortly after the naming ceremony of his child and was kept out of the spotlight to preserve his professional image. According to Mrs. Adeshina, her son suffered recurring seizures as a result.

As public curiosity swelled, authorities heeded calls for medical investigation, and an autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death. The findings have now been released, and the results paint a stark picture of what happened in the hours before Destiny Boy’s passing.

According to the autopsy report, which was referenced by Daily Trust, the late artist’s system contained high levels of tramadol and its related metabolites, along with methamphetamine. Toxicological analysis concluded that these potent substances contributed to a fatal reaction. Specifically, the report stated that Destiny Boy died from aspiration pneumonitis, a condition caused when foreign material enters the lungs, which in this case was linked to the ingestion of toxic drugs.

Aspiration pneumonitis is a serious lung inflammation triggered when substances such as vomit, chemicals, or drugs are breathed into the lower respiratory tract. In toxicology, elevated concentrations of both tramadol and methamphetamine can depress normal bodily functions and significantly impair protective airway reflexes. When combined, such substances can increase the risk of life‑threatening complications.

The revelation has been met with deep sorrow among his fans, music peers, and well‑wishers, many of whom had hoped for a natural explanation for his passing. The confirmation that illegal or unprescribed substances played a part has intensified conversations about drug use, mental health, and wellness among young artists in Nigeria’s bustling entertainment scene.

Despite the heartbreaking outcome, family members and supporters continue to celebrate Destiny Boy’s musical legacy  a legacy marked by vibrant performances, infectious rhythms, and lyrical creativity that endeared him to audiences across generations.

As tributes continue to flow, the autopsy’s confirmation brings a definitive account of the cause of death, closing a chapter of uncertainty that had surrounded the tragic loss of one of Afro‑Fuji’s promising talents.
