Nollywood actress Damilola Oni has spoken candidly about the complex realities of fame, revealing the harassment and unexpected challenges she faces both online and on set.
She shared the invasive nature of her social media interactions, explaining, “early in the morning when i open my Instagram men will send me their manh00d, saying i am everything you need baby. all sorts of d!cks are in my DM. some will even say they watched me on TV this morning and they used me to m@sturbat£.”
For Damilola, being in the public eye is not always glamorous. She reflected on the unpredictable nature of success in Nollywood, noting, “i am very single, from time, the hyped ones excels more than the talented, you have to spice it up because that’s what will make you relevant. people that are supposed to excel and become famous are not the ones we hear about.”
Her experiences on set have also been challenging. She recounted a recent incident where a major role she was excited to play became a source of disappointment due to interpersonal conflicts. “Someone told me he can never work with me and i didn’t offend the person, i was ok set one day and it was a very big role and i was very happy to take that lead role, i was there for more than 8 hours and i was like im suppose to be working by now as a lead role.”
The situation escalated when the producer asked if she had offended anyone. Damilola replied, “NO.” Despite this, she faced an impossible choice. “The person said i should choose between you and him and i can’t choose you over him. The producer said he will give me another minor role like 5 scenes.”
Even though she felt hurt, Damilola refused to let someone else dictate her decisions. “I wanted to leave because i was very s@d, i stayed and said i wont leave for this person, i will play the minor role and there’s nothing the person will do…”
Her story reveals the resilience required to navigate the entertainment industry balancing personal boundaries, professionalism, and the pressures of public life. Damilola’s honesty also exposes the complicated mix of admiration, intrusion, and politics that comes with being a rising star in Nollywood.
