Joseph Aloba, the father of late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has reiterated that his son will not be laid to rest until a DNA test is conducted to establish the paternity of the child the artist left behind.

The ongoing controversy resurfaced after a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, ordered a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to determine whether Liam Aloba is biologically related to the deceased singer. The directive was issued by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following a formal application filed by the late artist’s father.

Despite the court’s ruling, Aloba has raised fresh concerns about the integrity of the process. In a video shared on his TikTok page, he alleged that certain influential individuals are attempting to interfere with the case and frustrate his efforts to get clarity.

“Some powerful people have connived to use Mohbad’s death to frustrate me. After the toxicology was done, nothing came out of it, and now they have gone to pick a questionable DNA centre,” he said.

His remarks suggest growing distrust over how the investigation is being handled, particularly regarding the selection of laboratories responsible for the DNA analysis.

Aloba further disclosed that he is considering taking the matter beyond Lagos State due to these concerns. According to him, relocating the case could ensure greater transparency and fairness in the process.

“If possible, we will seek to transfer the case from Lagos to Ekiti State. I will consult my lawyer on that,” he added.

Reaffirming his stance, the grieving father emphasised that the DNA test remains a critical condition before any burial plans can proceed. While appealing to the Lagos State Government for permission to bury his son, he insisted that the process cannot move forward without resolving the paternity question.

“I am calling on the Lagos State Government to allow me to bury my son, but without DNA, we cannot proceed. It is part of the evidence,” he stated.

He also urged members of the public to support his demand, noting that establishing the truth is essential not only for the family but also for addressing lingering questions surrounding the late singer’s legacy.

Earlier, the family’s legal representative, Oladayo Ogungbe, had expressed reservations about the capability of some of the laboratories proposed for the test. He explained that the court had directed that the DNA analysis be carried out across three agreed facilities to ensure credibility and transparency.

The laboratories listed for the exercise include DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited. However, concerns have reportedly been raised about whether all the selected centres possess the required technical capacity to deliver reliable results.

The dispute adds another layer to the unresolved issues following Mohbad’s death in September 2023, which sparked nationwide reactions and intense scrutiny. Since then, questions surrounding his estate, royalties, and family matters—including the paternity of his son—have remained subjects of public debate.

Liam Aloba, the child at the centre of the controversy, was born in April 2023, just a few months before the singer’s passing. As the legal and family tensions continue, the outcome of the DNA test is expected to play a significant role in determining the next steps regarding both the burial and the broader issues tied to the late artist’s legacy.

For now, Mohbad’s final burial remains on hold, as his father insists that only a conclusive DNA result can bring clarity and closure to the situation.
