Relationship counsellors often witness the private struggles couples face behind closed doors. For Eno Jerry Eze, some of those experiences have raised concerns about what she believes is a growing lack of respect in modern relationships.
Eno, who is married to popular Nigerian pastor Jerry Eze, recently shared her thoughts while discussing relationship dynamics during a counselling session.
The pastor, who also ministers at Streams of Joy International, spoke candidly about the attitudes she sometimes observes among younger women seeking guidance for their relationships.
According to her, submission remains an important principle she believes women should not ignore despite changing societal views about gender roles and independence.
“Anything anybody want to tell you let them tell you but you see this one submission? We must submit ourselves as women. We must!”
Speaking further about her counselling experiences, Pastor Eno Jerry Eze revealed that she occasionally encounters behaviour she considers troubling during sessions with couples.
She explained that some women, particularly those in their late twenties and early thirties, openly show signs of disrespect toward their partners even while sitting before a counsellor.
“I see w0men, young girls, 28, 27, 32 when I’m counselling them if you see the way they are eying the man, if you see the d!srespect in front of me…”
She added that in some situations, the disrespect becomes verbal, with some women insulting their partners during discussions meant to help resolve their relationship challenges.
“calling him ‘f00l!sh man’ in front of me, not behind me, and I look at them and I say if you can do this in my presence what will you be doing to him when you are alone?”
Her remarks have quickly gained attention online, triggering widespread conversations about relationship values, gender expectations, and the importance of mutual respect between partners.
While some supporters agree with her perspective and say respect and humility are necessary for healthy relationships, others believe respect should be equally expected from both partners rather than being framed as a responsibility for women alone.
As the discussion continues to unfold across social media, many Nigerians are weighing in with their opinions, highlighting how topics around submission, respect, and modern relationship dynamics remain deeply debated in today’s society.
