A woman who traveled all the way from Lagos to Owerri for the City Boy Movement empowerment programme has raised serious concerns over what she described as unfulfilled promises by organizers, including Seyi Tinubu, Obi Cubana, and Cubana Chief Priest.
According to the woman, participants were recruited with the assurance that they would receive compensation and empowerment items for attending the event.
But after completing the trip and participating in the programme, she said none of the promised rewards were delivered.
“I need to get paid. After hiring us from Lagos to Owerri to campaign for you, I didn’t get paid as promised and didn’t even collect any of the items shared,” she said in a video that has quickly gone viral online.
The Lagos native revealed that the financial strain of the unplanned expenditure is already taking a toll.
“Now I don’t have money to go back to Lagos,” she lamented, highlighting the challenges faced by grassroots supporters who often bear the cost of long-distance travel to participate in political or promotional events.
Social media users have reacted strongly to the video, sparking debates about accountability, transparency, and the welfare of volunteers in similar movements.
Many questioned how large-scale political or empowerment programmes are organized and whether organizers ensure that promised incentives actually reach participants.
As of now, none of the figures mentioned in the woman’s complaint have issued statements addressing the allegations.
While supporters of the City Boy Movement defend the programme’s efforts, the incident underscores the need for clearer communication and reliable arrangements when mobilizing individuals from different regions.
The story has also drawn attention to broader issues in grassroots political engagement, particularly how volunteers and participants are treated, raising questions about responsibility, trust, and the ethics of campaign-related empowerment initiatives.
