Nollywood actor Benedict Johnson has opened up about one of the most challenging periods of his career, revealing that he went five years without landing a single movie role.

The actor made the disclosure during a church service at Streams of Joy International in Abuja, led by Pastor Jerry Eze. A video of his testimony has since gone viral on social media, drawing reactions from fans and colleagues within the film industry.

Speaking candidly before the congregation, Benedict said the five-year stretch without work left him confused and uncertain about his future in Nollywood.

According to him, the nature of the movie industry makes it difficult for actors to demand explanations when roles stop coming. He explained that unlike a regular job where an employee can question a supervisor about termination or suspension, actors often face silent rejection.

“Our industry is not like an employment where you can walk up to your director and say, ‘What’s happening?’ ‘Why was I fired?’ This one, silently, nobody calls you for a job. For five years, I had no job to do. I kept believing in God,” he said.

The actor revealed that the prolonged dry spell eventually influenced his decision to relocate to Abuja. Despite warnings from colleagues who insisted that Abuja is not a hub for film production like Lagos or Asaba, he chose to move so he could attend prayer meetings regularly at Streams of Joy International.

Benedict said he remained consistent in his faith, particularly participating in the church’s 21-day fasting and prayer programme at the beginning of the year. He believes that marked a turning point in his career.

“Fast forward to now: this year alone, I have done twelve jobs already. We did 21 days of fasting and prayers this January, and I was right here praying,” he told the congregation. “God opened my way, and I started doing jobs.”

According to him, the resurgence in his career has not been limited to local productions. He disclosed that he has received movie offers from producers in the United States and Germany and is scheduled to travel abroad for film projects.

“As I speak to you right now, by next week, I am going to Germany and America to make a movie. I intend to return all the glory to God,” he added.

Beyond his professional struggles, Benedict also spoke about a personal challenge involving his daughter’s health. He recounted how she battled a serious illness and expressed gratitude for what he described as her recovery, attributing it to prayers and support from church leaders.

Benedict Johnson, who hails from Imo State, has featured in several Nollywood productions over the years. His testimony has sparked conversations about the uncertainties actors face in the entertainment industry and the role faith plays in helping some navigate difficult seasons.
