The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of respected gospel singer and soundtrack icon Onos Nancy Brisibi, who passed away at the age of 55 after battling a prolonged illness.
Her family confirmed the sad development in an official statement released on Thursday, revealing that she died on March 23, 2026. They described her as a woman deeply rooted in faith, whose music and personality left a lasting impact on everyone who encountered her.
“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on 23rd March 2026 after a protracted illness,” the statement read.
The family went on to celebrate her life and legacy, highlighting her devotion to her Christian faith and her contribution to gospel music.
“Onos Nancy Brisibi was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music.
“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her.”
While funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, the family noted that further details would be communicated in due course.

Following news of her passing, tributes have continued to pour in from across the entertainment industry. Nollywood actress Stella Damasus expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as painful, while veteran media personality Emma Ugolee also reacted, calling her death devastating.
Ugolee further revealed that he had only recently become aware of her critical health condition while preparing a tribute in her honour, making the news even more shocking.

Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta State, Onos Nancy Brisibi began her musical journey at a young age. Over the years, she rose to prominence as one of the most recognisable voices in Nollywood, particularly through her contributions to film soundtracks.
Her powerful vocals featured in several classic Nollywood productions, including Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, Blood Money, Deadly End, and Shame. These films, which shaped the golden era of Nollywood, were further elevated by her soulful and emotionally charged performances.
Beyond film soundtracks, she also gained recognition for her collaboration with Lagbaja on the popular track Gra Gra, showcasing her versatility and wide appeal.
