Media entrepreneur and talk show host Chude Jideonwo is expanding his creative footprint in Nigeria’s entertainment industry as he prepares to make his cinema feature debut in the upcoming drama film Onobiren: A Woman’s Story.
The well-known interviewer, who built a strong reputation through his popular series With Chude, is stepping into a new space by appearing as part of the cast in the highly anticipated film.
Jideonwo has long been recognised for his work in media, storytelling and public conversations around personal growth, culture and leadership.
His transition into acting marks a notable shift from documentary-style storytelling and interviews into narrative filmmaking. The film Onobiren: A Woman’s Story provides the platform for this new creative exploration, introducing him to cinema audiences in a different capacity.
The film centres on the life of a young woman named Roli, whose journey forms the emotional backbone of the story. Roli is portrayed by rising actress Ruby Akubueze.
The character grows up in the riverine Itsekiri communities of Warri before making the difficult decision to relocate to Lagos in search of new opportunities.
Her move to the bustling commercial city exposes her to a different pace of life, forcing her to confront societal expectations, personal struggles and the realities that often accompany the pursuit of independence and success.
Directed by filmmaker Famous Iraoya and written and executive produced by Laju Iren, the movie explores themes surrounding womanhood, faith, identity and resilience within Nigerian society.
Through Roli’s story, the film reflects the emotional and social challenges many young women encounter while navigating family expectations, faith and the pressures of building a life away from home.
The production features a strong lineup of established Nollywood actors. Veteran actress Patience Ozokwo joins the cast alongside actors Deyemi Okanlawon, Bisola Aiyeola and Norbert Young, bringing experience and depth to the storytelling.
Their involvement adds further anticipation to the project, which aims to present a heartfelt and culturally rooted narrative.
Beyond his acting appearance, Jideonwo is widely known as the co-founder of RED Media Africa and the founder of Joy Inc.. His career has largely revolved around media innovation, youth empowerment and storytelling that highlights personal transformation and social issues.
Although Onobiren: A Woman’s Story marks his first major cinema feature appearance, Jideonwo has previously made an appearance in the 2025 film SIN, signaling his growing interest in film and visual storytelling.
His participation in Onobiren further demonstrates his willingness to explore new creative paths while contributing to Nigeria’s expanding film industry.
The movie was filmed in both Warri and Lagos, reflecting the two central environments that shape the protagonist’s journey. It also represents the first theatrical release from Laju Iren Films.
The production received support from organisations such as Africa No Filter and CcHub Creative Economy, both of which focus on strengthening Africa’s creative and storytelling industries.
Onobiren: A Woman’s Story is scheduled for cinema release across Nigeria and Ghana, where audiences will get to see Jideonwo take on a new role on the big screen while contributing to a story rooted in culture, identity and personal transformation.
