American rapper Rick Ross has revealed his dream collaboration, naming a lineup that blends reggae, Afrobeat and modern Afrobeats legends.
The rapper recently spoke about the idea during a livestream interview, where he reflected on the type of musical partnership he believes would be historic.
According to him, his ideal collaboration would feature Jamaican reggae icon Bob Marley, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy.
Ross explained that bringing together artists from different generations and genres would create a powerful musical moment capable of transcending borders and cultures.
“If I had a dream collaboration right now, it would be Rick Ross, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti and Burna Boy. Imagine such a record. To me, that’s king-level. That’s next level,” Ross said.
The American rapper, known for his deep voice and luxurious rap style, has long shown admiration for global music influences, particularly sounds coming out of Africa and the Caribbean.
His mention of Marley and Fela highlights the immense influence both legends continue to have on artists across the world, decades after shaping their respective genres.
Marley, widely regarded as the global face of reggae music, remains one of the most influential musicians in history. His music carried messages of unity, resistance and spirituality, helping reggae gain worldwide recognition.
On the other hand, Fela revolutionised African music with Afrobeat, a genre that blended traditional African rhythms with jazz, funk and highlife while addressing political and social issues.
By including Burna Boy in the imagined collaboration, Ross also acknowledged the current global rise of Afrobeats.
Burna Boy has emerged as one of Africa’s biggest musical exports, winning international awards and selling out major venues across Europe and North America.
Ross further revealed that if he had the opportunity, he would also add another legendary voice to the collaboration Nigerian-British singer Sade Adu, popularly known as Sade.
“I am the boss but I don’t know if I could get Sade to collaborate with me. I will put that on the wish list. I love Sade. Salute queen,” Ross added.
Sade Adu is widely respected for her soulful voice and timeless classics that have influenced generations of musicians.
Despite her global success, the singer has remained famously private and selective about collaborations and public appearances, which Ross hinted might make such a partnership difficult.
Ross’ comments have since sparked conversations among music fans online, with many imagining how such a collaboration would sound.
While a record bringing together Marley, Fela, Burna Boy and Ross remains purely hypothetical, the idea reflects how music continues to connect different eras and cultures.
The rapper’s remarks also underline the growing recognition of African music on the global stage. Over the past decade, Afrobeats has gained widespread popularity, with artists like Burna Boy collaborating with major international acts and performing at some of the world’s biggest festivals.
For Ross, combining the legacy of Marley and Fela with modern Afrobeats energy represents what he described as a “next level” musical moment one that would celebrate the past, present and future of global music.
