The organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have officially announced the nominees for the 12th edition of the prestigious awards, setting the stage for what promises to be another major celebration of African film and television.

The main awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026, where top talents across the continent will gather to honour outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry. Over the years, the AMVCA has grown into one of Africa’s most respected award platforms, recognising excellence both in front of and behind the camera.

Ahead of the announcement, veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva was appointed as the Head Judge for this year’s edition. She takes over the role from Femi Odugbemi, bringing her wealth of experience and industry knowledge to the judging process. Her appointment has been widely regarded as a significant move, given her longstanding contributions to African cinema.

The 2026 edition of the awards will feature a total of 32 categories. These include 18 jury-decided awards, 11 categories open to public voting, and three special honours. Among the special recognitions are the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award, both of which celebrate individuals who have made remarkable impacts within the industry.

In a move to further expand its continental reach, the AMVCA has introduced two new categories: Best Indigenous Language Film (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa). This development reflects a growing effort to promote inclusivity and highlight diverse storytelling traditions from different regions across Africa.

The nominees were unveiled during a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels, with hosting duties handled by award-winning actor Chimezie Imo. The announcement generated excitement among fans and industry stakeholders, many of whom are already anticipating the outcomes of the various categories.

As preparations continue for the main event, expectations are high for a glamorous ceremony that will spotlight the creativity, talent, and innovation shaping African entertainment today. With a mix of established stars and emerging talents on the nomination list, the 12th AMVCA is set to deliver another memorable night celebrating the best of the industry.
