Sophia Momodu, the first baby mama of Afrobeats star Davido, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to women across the world who have stood by her with love, prayers, and emotional support amid the ongoing custody controversy involving her daughter, Imade.
Taking to her Instagram story, Sophia shared a short but emotional message, appreciating the overwhelming show of solidarity she has received during the challenging period. She acknowledged the encouragement, prayers, and kindness extended to her by women globally, noting that the gestures have deeply touched her heart.
“The way Women across the world have surrounded me with love and have been covering me in prayers. All I can say is Thank You. God bless you. Love TSM,” she wrote.
Her message comes shortly after fresh developments in the highly publicised custody dispute between her and Davido. Two days earlier, reports surfaced online claiming that the music star became visibly emotional during a court session in Yaba, Lagos. According to lawyer Maruf Muhammed, who shared details via X (formerly Twitter), Davido allegedly lost his cool during cross-examination, creating tension in the courtroom.
In response, Davido later clarified that he never sought full custody of Imade but only requested joint custody. The singer explained that the legal process became emotionally draining, prompting him to withdraw the case entirely for the sake of his daughter’s well-being. He assured that Imade would grow up knowing he fought to be part of her life and called for peace moving forward.
Following Davido’s announcement, several public figures weighed in on the matter. Entrepreneur Wanneka praised the singer for standing up for his child, noting that many fathers often show little concern for their children’s welfare. She remarked that Imade would one day appreciate knowing that her father made efforts to be present in her life.
Also reacting, Davido’s aide, Israel DMW, issued a stern warning about underestimating women, particularly those deeply rooted in faith. He suggested that such women possess emotional strength and resilience, often remaining unmoved by pain inflicted on them.
However, not all reactions were supportive. Social commentator Isaac Fayose openly criticised Sophia, describing her as one of the most “toxic baby mothers” anyone could encounter. He advised Davido and the Adeleke family to ignore the situation and allow Sophia to have full custody, claiming that Imade would eventually return to her father when she becomes older.
The legal battle itself began in 2024 when Davido filed a lawsuit seeking joint custody of Imade. The singer alleged that Sophia was denying him access to their daughter and making financial demands, claims she strongly denied. In response, Sophia opposed his request, citing concerns over his lifestyle and referencing the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi, as part of her argument that he was unfit to independently raise Imade.
Despite the courtroom tensions, there have been moments of reconciliation. Last year, Davido announced that he had reunited with his daughter, sharing photos of their time together and describing it as one of the happiest days of his life. The reunion was warmly received by fans, many of whom expressed hope that both parents would prioritise Imade’s emotional well-being.
As the public continues to follow the unfolding story, Sophia’s recent message of gratitude highlights the emotional support she has drawn from women around the world. While the custody battle has drawn intense scrutiny and divided opinions, her post underscores a desire for peace, healing, and strength amid the storm.
