The action thriller Son of the Soil is set to premiere on Netflix across Africa on March 1, following an impressive run at international film festivals and in cinemas.
The film, which features Nollywood veterans Patience Ozokwo and Ireti Doyle, marks another significant step in the growing global visibility of African storytelling.
Directed by Chee Keong Cheung, Son of the Soil tells the gripping story of Zion Ladejo, a former Nigerian Special Operations paratrooper who returns home after suffering a personal tragedy.
His homecoming, however, quickly spirals into conflict as he becomes entangled with dangerous criminal networks. Blending emotional drama with high-intensity action sequences, the film offers audiences both compelling storytelling and adrenaline-filled moments.
Razaq Adoti leads the cast, bringing international experience from previous roles in major productions. The ensemble also includes Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Damilola Ogunsi, Philip Asaya, Emeka Golden and Sharon Rotimi. Rising talent Ijelu Folajimi, a Best of Nollywood Child Actress award recipient, is also introduced in the project, adding fresh energy to the production.
The film is a British-Nigerian co-production shot in Lagos, highlighting the city’s dynamic landscape while maintaining global production standards.
It was developed and produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign in association with Lagos-based Boxonia Blueprint. Producers include Andreas Roald, Razaq Adoti, Ioanna Karavela, Chee Keong Cheung and Wingonia Ikpi.
The cinematography is handled by Jack Thompson Roylance, while the score is composed by Tolu Obanro, whose music enhances the film’s emotional depth and action sequences.
Cheung, known for directing the action film Redcon-1, continues to focus on developing action-driven stories rooted in Africa for international audiences through his company, Action Xtreme.
The company has secured a first-look collaboration with Nile Entertainment to produce film and television projects for global distribution. This partnership combines production expertise with strong market reach across Africa.
Distributed by Nile Entertainment, Son of the Soil previously premiered at the 34th Pan African Film Festival, where it attracted attention for its ambitious action style and cross-cultural production.
Its upcoming Netflix release ensures that subscribers across Africa will have access to the film, expanding its reach beyond traditional cinema audiences.
The Netflix premiere signals the continued growth of African action cinema and reinforces the continent’s expanding footprint in the global entertainment industry.
By combining seasoned Nollywood talent with international collaboration, Son of the Soil positions itself as a bold entry into the evolving landscape of African storytelling on streaming platforms.
