Controversial Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred fresh debate online after rejecting a ₦50 million offer to face popular content creator and streamer Carter Efe in a celebrity boxing bout. The outspoken singer described the proposed fee as grossly inadequate, insisting that he deserves a much bigger payout before stepping into the ring.
The proposal was made by music executive Soso Soberekon during a recent livestream session with Carter Efe. In the video, Soso suggested a boxing match between the two entertainers as a way to create excitement and engage fans. Carter Efe, who appeared enthusiastic about the idea, immediately accepted the challenge and urged Soso to proceed with fixing a date, venue, and other logistics for the anticipated showdown.
However, Portable was quick to shut down the offer. In a video response that soon went viral, the singer firmly rejected the ₦50 million incentive, stating that it did not match his status, experience, or the level of entertainment the fight would generate. He argued that the bout would attract massive attention and financial returns, therefore requiring a much higher reward.
According to Portable, he would only agree to participate if the organisers were willing to significantly increase the stakes. He demanded that, in addition to the ₦50 million cash, a luxury car valued at ₦300 million must be included in the deal, bringing his total demand to ₦350 million.
“Soso, ₦50 million is too small. Give me ₦50 million plus a car worth ₦300 million, making it ₦350 million, and I will beat Carter Efe mercilessly. I’m the same guy who defeated Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington,” he said confidently in the video.
The singer went on to boast about his previous appearances in celebrity boxing matches, where he emerged victorious against actors and entertainers, using those wins to justify his demands. He insisted that his reputation, fighting experience, and fan base make him a premium attraction, adding that anything short of his conditions would be a waste of his time.
Portable’s reaction has since triggered mixed responses across social media. While some fans applauded his boldness and self-confidence, others criticized what they described as unrealistic and excessive demands. Many also questioned whether the proposed fight would eventually take place, considering the wide gap between the initial offer and Portable’s counter-demand.
Supporters of Carter Efe have also weighed in, suggesting that the streamer does not need to meet such conditions to prove himself, while others argued that the hype surrounding the potential bout could make it a major entertainment event if properly organised.
Celebrity boxing has become increasingly popular in Nigeria, with several high-profile matches drawing massive attention and viewership. These events often combine entertainment, rivalry, and spectacle, making them attractive to both sponsors and fans. A Portable versus Carter Efe clash, many believe, could follow the same trend if both parties reach an agreement.
As of the time of this report, Soso Soberekon has not publicly responded to Portable’s ₦350 million demand, leaving the future of the much-talked-about fight uncertain. Whether negotiations will continue or collapse entirely remains to be seen, but the exchange has already succeeded in capturing widespread public interest.
