Big Brother Naija star Pere Egbi has spoken out in defence of Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, the lead pastor of David’s Christian Centre, following public reactions to the pastor’s decision to get a tattoo.

The reality TV personality weighed in on the conversation after the tattoo sparked mixed opinions online, with some critics questioning whether such an action was appropriate for a Christian leader. Egbi, however, dismissed the criticism, insisting that outward appearance has no bearing on a pastor’s faith, calling, or spiritual authority.

According to Egbi, the backlash against Pastor Okonkwo appears inconsistent when compared to the acceptance of other unconventional styles commonly seen among pastors. He pointed out that many Christian leaders already express themselves through different personal fashion choices without facing similar scrutiny.

“I see nothing wrong with a Pastor getting tattoos. We have Pastors with braids, dreadlocks, Pastors who wear earrings, and who jerrycurl their hair!” he wrote.

Egbi argued that singling out tattoos as unacceptable while overlooking other non-traditional looks reveals a deeper issue of selective judgment within religious circles. He suggested that such reactions often stem from personal biases rather than genuine spiritual concerns.

Beyond appearance, the former BBNaija housemate also challenged the habit of judging people’s spirituality based on outward expressions. He warned that assumptions made on earth may not align with divine standards, adding that many people who are casually dismissed as “worldly” or “carnal” might ultimately surprise others in the afterlife.

“Some people would be amazed at the people they’d see in heaven. People, most of y’all write off here on earth as carnal. Some are in for a rude awakening,” Egbi added.

His comments have since fueled broader discussions on social media about modern Christianity, personal expression, and the evolving image of religious leadership. While some users agreed with Egbi’s position, noting that faith should be measured by character and teachings rather than appearance, others maintained that spiritual leaders are held to higher standards of conduct and symbolism.

Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, a well-known relationship counselor and preacher, has built a reputation for addressing contemporary issues within the church, often encouraging balanced perspectives on faith, culture, and personal growth. Although he has not directly responded to the criticism surrounding his tattoo, his ministry continues to emphasize love, maturity, and intentional Christian living.

The debate reflects a growing tension between traditional expectations and modern expressions of faith, particularly among younger Christians who believe spirituality and personal style can coexist without conflict.

As the conversation continues, Egbi’s remarks have resonated with many who feel that Christianity should focus more on inward transformation than outward conformity, reinforcing the idea that faith is not defined by hair, clothing, or body art, but by the heart and actions of the believer.
