“Mother’s Love,” the directorial debut of Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has continued its impressive international run with a screening at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles, California.

The showcase marks another milestone for the film, which has steadily gained global visibility ahead of its Nigerian premiere and nationwide cinema release scheduled for early March 2026.

PAFF, now in its 34th year, is widely regarded as one of the most respected platforms dedicated to African and diaspora storytelling.

Over the decades, the festival has spotlighted films that reflect the depth, diversity and richness of Black experiences around the world. “Mother’s Love” joining that lineup signals a significant moment, not only for Omotola as a first-time director but also for Nollywood’s expanding global footprint.

Before its Los Angeles screening, the film had already been featured at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), further strengthening its international appeal.

Each stop has introduced the project to new audiences, critics and industry stakeholders, building anticipation for its homecoming release in Nigeria.

At its core, “Mother’s Love” is an intimate exploration of maternal resilience and the unbreakable bond between mothers and daughters.

The story delves into the layered emotional realities faced by first-born daughters, examining how expectations, sacrifice and love intersect within different social classes.

It also touches on themes such as grief, post-traumatic stress and social stratification, presenting them through a lens that balances vulnerability with strength.

The Los Angeles screening attracted a strong turnout despite heavy rain earlier in the day. Diaspora creatives and supporters of African cinema gathered to celebrate the film and its director.

Among those present were Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ose Oyamedan of Nollywood in Hollywood, Ashkan Tabitha of 90210 Network, and Dami Kujembola of Amplify Africa, alongside other cultural advocates committed to amplifying African narratives on the global stage.

Omotola, who recently marked three decades in the film industry and was previously recognised on the TIME 100 list, travelled to Los Angeles to represent the project personally.

She was accompanied by her sons, Matthew Ekeinde and Michael Ekeinde. Her presence underscored her hands-on approach to this new chapter of her career, transitioning from celebrated actress to filmmaker with a distinct voice.

The film tells the story of a young woman raised in privilege who, during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, steps outside the comfort of her sheltered upbringing.

Through unfamiliar environments and challenging circumstances, she begins to discover purpose, identity and resilience. Throughout her journey, the enduring influence of her mother’s love shapes her decisions and strengthens her resolve.

The cast features a blend of established and rising Nollywood talents, including Omotola herself, Ifeanyi Kalu, Noray Nehita, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex and Olumide Oworu. Together, they bring emotional depth and nuance to a story that resonates across cultures.

With successful screenings in Dubai, Silicon Valley, Toronto and now Los Angeles, “Mother’s Love” is positioning itself as more than a local release.

It represents a growing wave of Nigerian films seeking global recognition while remaining rooted in culturally specific storytelling.

As it prepares to meet audiences in Nigerian cinemas this March, the film carries with it the momentum of international acclaim and the promise of a heartfelt narrative centered on family, sacrifice and enduring love.
