Nollywood actor Ijebu has raised alarm over the disturbing trend of social media content where influencers livestream themselves drinking hypochlorite (hypo), warning that the trend is putting children at serious risk.
The actor urged Nigerian authorities to take decisive action to prevent further harm.
“We have kids who are already using phone, I don’t know when people turn sniper and hypo to content, in the name of I want to end it all, I’m calling on the police to stand up and start arresting them,” Ijebu stated, addressing the viral online behaviour.
The warning comes after popular influencer King Mitchy reportedly consumed hypochlorite bleach during a livestream, in a shocking stunt that captivated online audiences.
Fellow content creator VeryDarkMan also appeared in separate videos to drink hypo, further escalating the dangerous online trend.
These incidents have triggered widespread outrage, highlighting the risks of extreme content creation on social media platforms.
Ijebu emphasized that such reckless stunts not only endanger the lives of the creators but also influence impressionable young viewers who may attempt to imitate these hazardous acts.
The actor called for urgent law enforcement intervention, stressing that public safety must take priority over viral content or social media fame.
As the controversy surrounding King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan continues, Ijebu’s plea underscores the urgent need for stricter regulations and accountability in the Nigerian social media and entertainment space, ensuring that viral trends do not jeopardize the wellbeing of children and young audiences.
