Nigerian actress Etinosa Idemudia has opened up about a frightening chapter of her life, revealing how her colleague, Mercy Johnson, stepped in to help her when she allegedly received death threats from her ex-husband.

Etinosa made the disclosure during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where she spoke candidly about the fallout that followed an interview in which she accused her former husband of domestic abuse

. According to the actress, the situation escalated quickly and left her genuinely afraid for her safety.

Recounting the experience, Etinosa explained that the controversy began after she granted an interview while promoting a film titled Stormy Heart.

At the time, she said she was still relatively inexperienced in handling media conversations and did not know how to carefully navigate sensitive questions.

She noted that when asked about love and relationships, she spoke honestly and mentioned that a past relationship had almost cost her life, casually identifying the person as her ex-husband.

However, she claimed that the media house downplayed the film discussion and instead focused heavily on the marriage aspect, which took her by surprise.

Following the publication of the interview, Etinosa said her ex-husband contacted her angrily, accusing her of trying to destroy his career.

She alleged that he demanded she publicly retract her statements and frame them as the words of a bitter ex-wife. When she refused, the situation allegedly became more intense.

According to Etinosa, the threats soon escalated, leaving her distressed and uncertain about what to do next. Feeling overwhelmed, she decided to speak out on Instagram, hoping to draw attention to her situation and seek help.

She revealed that several people reached out in support, but Mercy Johnson’s intervention stood out. Etinosa explained that Mercy Johnson, who she described as having strong military connections, immediately took the matter seriously and offered to escalate it to higher authorities.

The actress said Mercy Johnson forwarded the case to the Chief of Naval Staff. Shortly after, she was contacted by someone from Abuja who assured her that the situation was being handled and that she would no longer be threatened.

According to Etinosa, the intervention brought her a sense of relief and helped bring the ordeal to an end.

Etinosa also provided context about her personal life, noting that she was first married to a military officer, Babatunde Solomon.

The marriage ended between 2017 and 2018. Her second marriage, to Benin-based lawyer Ighorosa, also ended in 2021 after they welcomed a child together.

The revelation has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians praising Mercy Johnson for stepping in to support her colleague during a difficult time.

Others have also commended Etinosa for speaking openly about her experience, describing her story as a reminder of the challenges some women face behind the scenes.

As conversations around domestic abuse, online harassment, and personal safety continue to gain attention in Nigeria, Etinosa’s account has added another voice to the call for stronger support systems and accountability.
