Actress and comedian Wofai Fada has shared candid insights into her views on love, marriage, and career, revealing that she deliberately prioritises her home and family over certain acting opportunities. Speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, the entertainer explained that her understanding of Valentine’s Day, relationships, and personal growth has evolved over time, shaping how she navigates both her professional and private life.

According to Fada, Valentine’s Day, for her, is less about personal indulgence and more about creating memorable experiences for others. She said her joy comes from serving people and ensuring they feel comfortable and celebrated, especially through her hospitality business.

“What I’m looking for every Valentine’s Day is how to serve people and make them feel comfortable. Planning a Valentine’s menu, trying to get them together; you don’t even think about yourself. Over the years, every Valentine’s, this is what we do. Sometimes the experiences I’ve had were proposals. People come in, eat, propose, we play love songs for them, and sometimes we call an artist to sing for them. That’s how we enjoy ourselves—seeing others enjoy themselves,” she said.

She added that she and her husband usually reserve time for themselves after the day’s activities, choosing a quiet and intimate celebration away from the spotlight.

“After Valentine’s Day, we plan to take a hotel room, so we can enjoy other people’s services. Everything I’m talking about is what we do most weekends, so I don’t want people to think we’re going out specifically for Valentine’s Day,” she noted.

This year’s Valentine’s celebration, she said, carries extra meaning because of the launch of a new Abuja outlet of her restaurant brand, JustAfang. She expressed curiosity about how residents of the capital city would respond to the festivities.

“What makes this year different is that we want to see how Abuja responds to Valentine’s Day. Lagos people are outgoing, but Abuja is more laid-back. Last year, someone even proposed in Lagos at the restaurant,” she recalled.

Beyond romance and business, Fada stressed the critical role of financial stability in sustaining healthy relationships, especially in marriages involving children.

“Relationship without money, or marriage without money… if the couple doesn’t survive it, the kids will suffer,” she said, reflecting on lessons from her upbringing.

Addressing widespread assumptions about the entertainment industry, the actress dismissed the notion that romantic roles on screen often lead to off-screen affairs. She explained that she consciously turns down roles that might jeopardise her family life.

“People think that because you act in love scenes, something is happening off-screen. That’s not true. I have refused roles that would create unnecessary problems because I have kids and want to protect my family,” she explained.

Fada also opened up about how heartbreak once shifted her priorities, pushing her to focus more on her career development.

“As a lover girl, I was in love, dating one guy. When he broke my heart, I put my career first,” she said.

On emotional growth within marriage, she admitted learning to release her overly independent tendencies and allow her husband to lead, which she believes has strengthened their bond.

“I had to let my guard down and be an independent woman and just let the man lead. It helped me enjoy my femininity,” she added.

Sharing her philosophy on love, Fada likened relationships to nurturing plants, emphasising patience and intentional effort.

“If you don’t water it, if you don’t give it the right nutrients, how will it blossom? You have to find love first, then nurture it. You can’t build what you have not found,” she said.

Reflecting on love at first sight, the actress noted that her perspective has matured with age and experience.

“When I was younger, I fell in love with a guy because of his looks. It’s very risky. At my age now, I believe we have to have a conversation. I need to know what’s in your head and where you’re going,” she added.

Through her words, Fada presents a picture of a woman committed to balancing love, ambition, and family, choosing to protect her marriage even when it requires personal and professional sacrifice.
