Filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has thrown her weight behind Kilanko: The Invisible Child, the final movie directed by her late colleague Allwell Ademola, following the release of its official trailer this week.

Actor and producer Rotimi Salami unveiled the trailer on Tuesday, confirming that the emotional drama is scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on March 6.

The film marks one of the last projects completed by Allwell before her death in December 2025, making its release a deeply significant moment for the Nollywood community.

Produced by Rotimi Salami, Kilanko: The Invisible Child boasts an impressive cast that includes Saidi Balogun, Ibrahim Chatta, Foluke Daramola, Biola Adebayo and veteran comic actor Saka Oyetoro.

The trailer offers a glimpse into a powerful story centered on resilience, identity and the often-overlooked struggles faced by vulnerable individuals in society.

On Wednesday, Funke Akindele reshared the trailer on her official Instagram page, drawing widespread attention to the project. Her endorsement generated thousands of likes, comments and reposts within hours, as fans and industry colleagues reacted with anticipation.

Many followers expressed excitement about the film’s cinematic release, with some predicting sold-out screenings across the country.

One enthusiastic fan wrote, “Cinemas we are coming for KILANKO sold out back to back lagbara olorun I feel impressed with this trailer alone,” reflecting the mood among supporters eager to honour Allwell’s legacy by turning out in large numbers.

Rotimi Salami has been vocal about the importance of supporting the film. He noted that while he served as producer, it was Allwell Ademola’s creative direction that shaped the movie’s core message.

According to him, the project was designed to celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of African women, themes that Allwell was passionate about throughout her career.

Allwell Ademola was widely respected in Nollywood as an actress, director and producer who dedicated years to telling culturally relevant stories.

Her sudden passing in late December 2025 sent shockwaves through the industry. Tributes poured in from colleagues and fans who described her as hardworking, visionary and deeply committed to her craft. She was laid to rest in Lagos in January 2026, with many prominent figures in attendance.

The upcoming release of Kilanko: The Invisible Child is therefore more than just another film premiere. It represents a tribute to a filmmaker whose voice and vision left a mark on Nollywood.

For many in the industry, the movie stands as a celebration of her talent and a final opportunity for audiences to experience her storytelling on the big screen.

With Funke Akindele’s public backing and growing anticipation among fans, expectations are high ahead of the March 6 debut. As cinemas prepare for its release, Kilanko: The Invisible Child is poised to serve both as compelling entertainment and a heartfelt homage to Allwell Ademola’s enduring legacy.
