Nollywood actress Chinyere Wilfred has sparked conversations online after she shared a dance video on Instagram and took a subtle swipe at colleagues who use dancing to promote their movies.
In the post, Chinyere urged fellow actors to focus on their craft rather than following viral trends:
"When e reach your turn, no dance to promote your Movie, New movie dropping soon, guys, ChifredTV
Pls Click the link on my BIO to SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel.”
Her bold statement drew immediate reactions from fans and colleagues alike. Among those who commented were Chizzy Alichi, Juliet Ibrahim, Destiny Etiko, Nina Ivy, and Monalisa Coker, who reacted with laughing emojis.
Anita Joseph wrote:
“Omo we go dance oh”
One wisdomciheanacho added:
“Even if you dance till tomorrow. If you aren’t known for mind-blowing movies, nobody go watch. So, beyond dancing, work on your locations, video quality and engaging scenes and characters.”
One mummytwinstv chimed in:
“Una don dey jealous Omotola Nawa o, she said her mind”
The discussion comes shortly after Omotola Jalade Ekeinde expressed her views on the growing trend of actors dancing on social media to promote their films. Omotola described the practice as unprofessional, stressing that quality movies deserve proper marketing rather than viral gimmicks.
This debate is not new in Nollywood. Legendary filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, during a recent premiere, remarked that he would rather earn ₦10 million than chase ₦1–2 billion in cinema earnings from movies promoted through dances.
He also criticized colleagues who continually rely on viral dance trends instead of focusing on the substance of their films.
Chinyere Wilfred’s Instagram post has reignited the conversation about quality filmmaking versus viral promotions, with fans praising her for speaking her mind while highlighting the growing discourse on professionalism in Nollywood.
