Entries are now being accepted for films hoping to be considered for the Official Selection of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious events on the global cinema calendar. Widely known as the Festival de Cannes, the 2026 edition is scheduled to take place in France from May 12 to May 23, bringing together some of the most influential figures in the international film industry.

For nearly two weeks, the festival will serve as a hub for filmmakers, actors, producers, distributors and other creative professionals, featuring world premieres, competitive screenings and a wide range of industry-related activities. Each year, Cannes provides a platform for both established directors and emerging talents to showcase their work on one of cinema’s most celebrated stages.

According to information released by the festival’s organisers, submission deadlines differ depending on the category of entry. Films submitted under the La Cinéfondation, now known as La Cinef, which focuses on works from film schools, must be entered by February 15. Short films have a submission deadline of March 2, while feature-length films must be submitted no later than March 13.

The organisers also outlined eligibility for one of the festival’s most coveted honours, the Caméra d’Or. The award is dedicated to recognising outstanding debut films and cuts across multiple sections of the festival.

“All debut feature films selected across the festival’s major sections, including the Official Competition, Un Certain Regard, Out of Competition, the Directors’ Fortnight and the Critics’ Week (Semaine de la Critique), will be eligible for the Caméra d’Or, which honours the best first film.”

Beyond the main competitive categories, Cannes continues to offer several platforms designed to support discovery, networking and industry growth. One of these is the Short Film Corner, which operates as a professional screening and networking space separate from the official competition.

“The festival also highlighted opportunities beyond the main competition. The Short Film Corner, a professional networking and screening platform distinct from the official competition, is exclusively reserved for short films. Submissions to this section are paid and must be completed online via the Cinéma de Demain platform.”

In addition to screenings and awards, Cannes is also home to one of the world’s most influential film markets. The Marché du Film plays a central role in connecting filmmakers with buyers, distributors and sales agents from across the globe.

“Meanwhile, the Marché du Film, Cannes’ international film market, will once again allow producers and sales agents to organise paid market screenings for buyers and distributors. Further details are available through the Marché du Film’s official channels.”

With submissions now open, filmmakers across different genres and career stages have the opportunity to be part of the 2026 edition of the Festival de Cannes. The event remains a major launchpad for films seeking global exposure, critical acclaim and international distribution, reinforcing its reputation as a cornerstone of the world film industry.
