Legendary Nigerian singer and songwriter, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has described Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy as the leading African musician on the global stage, placing him ahead of fellow superstars Davido and Wizkid.
The music icon made this statement while speaking on the current state of Nigerian music and the global influence of Afrobeats.
According to 2Baba, Burna Boy’s consistency, artistry, and delivery have positioned him at the very top of the game, not just in Nigeria or Africa, but across the world.
“Burna is on top of the game, not just in Nigeria, in Africa, in the world,” 2Baba said. He praised the singer’s creative depth, explaining that Burna Boy approaches music like an artist approaches a canvas, with each song representing a different painting. He noted that this versatility and attention to detail are part of what makes Burna Boy stand out on the global stage.
2Baba further explained that Burna Boy’s sound is deeply rooted in African identity while still appealing to a worldwide audience.
This balance, he said, has helped the singer break boundaries and maintain relevance across different markets. From sold-out stadium tours to major international awards, Burna Boy’s rise has been marked by steady growth and global recognition.
Despite placing Burna Boy ahead in terms of current global dominance, 2Baba was careful to emphasize that Wizkid and Davido remain major forces in the music industry. He described all three artists as exceptional, noting that each of them brings something unique to the table.
According to him, Wizkid’s smooth delivery and international collaborations have helped solidify his place as a global star, while Davido’s energy, hit-making ability, and strong connection with fans continue to keep him relevant and influential. He stressed that comparisons should not take away from the collective success of Nigerian artists.
2Baba highlighted that the achievements of Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido reflect the strength of Nigerian music as a whole. He said their success has opened doors for younger artists and helped position Nigeria as a global music powerhouse.
The veteran singer also expressed pride in how far the industry has come, noting that Nigerian music now enjoys respect and recognition on international platforms that were once difficult to access. He credited this growth to years of hard work, collaboration, and cultural authenticity.
In recent years, Afrobeats has continued to dominate global charts, festivals, and award ceremonies, with Nigerian artists leading the movement. Burna Boy’s multiple Grammy wins and global tours, Wizkid’s international chart success, and Davido’s massive fan base all serve as evidence of the genre’s expanding influence.
2Baba concluded by celebrating the current era of Nigerian music, describing it as a powerful moment where African voices are being heard, respected, and celebrated worldwide.
