Nollywood comic actor and content creator Okemesi has reportedly fallen into a coma following complications linked to medications he was given after a recent hospital treatment.
The development was disclosed on Monday night by his colleague, Jeff Owolewa, popularly known as Tony Montana, in a post shared on Instagram. The news comes barely two days after the actor moved into a new apartment that had been secured for him through public support.
Okemesi, whose real name is Bamidele Tope Saint, had earlier appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance after battling an illness that left him in a difficult condition and temporarily without accommodation.
His situation had drawn sympathy from fans and colleagues within the entertainment industry, prompting donations and support that helped him secure a new place to stay.
However, in a troubling turn of events, Jeff revealed that Okemesi was hospitalised again after experiencing adverse reactions believed to be complications from drugs administered during his previous treatment.
According to him, the actor had been unusually weak over the weekend, sleeping through Saturday and Sunday with little appetite for food.
Concerned about his deteriorating state, Jeff said he rushed to Okemesi’s residence early Monday morning and attempted to get him urgent medical attention.
He claimed they were turned away by multiple hospitals, including a government facility, due to a lack of bed space. Eventually, he took the actor back to the private hospital that had initially handled his treatment.
There, he was admitted and placed under medical supervision. Jeff disclosed that although Okemesi’s breathing had shown signs of improvement, he had slipped into a coma and was placed on oxygen as doctors worked to stabilise him.
The incident has sparked renewed concern among fans and colleagues, many of whom have taken to social media to express shock and offer prayers for his recovery. Jeff also appealed to the public for continued financial assistance to support the actor’s ongoing treatment.
Okemesi is known for his comic roles and engaging online skits, which have earned him a modest but loyal following.
His recent health struggles have highlighted the challenges faced by some entertainers, particularly those without stable financial backing or structured healthcare support.
As of the time of filing this report, further medical updates on his condition had not been released. Supporters continue to hope for positive news as prayers and goodwill messages pour in for the ailing actor.
The situation has once again drawn attention to the need for improved welfare structures within the entertainment industry, as colleagues rally around one of their own in what remains a critical moment.
